OAO SEVERSTAL ANNOUNCES CHANGES IN EXECUTIVE MANAGEMENT Gregory Mason named CEO of Severstal North America, he remains CEO of Severstal International 

Moscow, Russia - March 25th, 2009: OAO Severstal (LSE: SVST, RTS: CHMF), one of the world's leading metals and mining companies, today announced management changes at its Severstal International Division.

Gregory Mason has been named as the new CEO of Severstal North America. Mr. Mason will also remain CEO of the Severstal International Division of OAO Severstal.

Ronald Nock, formerly CEO of Severstal North America, will continue serving on the Board of Directors of Severstal North America, Inc..

Alexey Mordashov, CEO of OAO Severstal, commented, "This appointment will strengthen our North American management team. Gregory will continue playing a key role for the Company as we respond to the global economic downturn and manage our business appropriately in order to remain an industry leader."
