CAP-XX High Temperature Supercapacitors Named a 2008 Design News Golden Mousetrap Award Finalist

SYDNEY, Australia, Sept. 16 -- CAP-XX Limited today announced that Design News has named its H series supercapacitors as a finalist in the 2008 Golden Mousetrap Awards for a technology advancement that extends operating voltage to 5.5V and temperature rating to +85 degrees C. These high temperature and high voltage supercapacitors provide reliable power support to many electronic devices operating to demanding specifications, including camera phones, energy-harvester-powered wireless sensor networks and solid state disks (SSDs).

John Parker, principal engineer for UK-based Perpetuum, explained why the company chose CAP-XX H series supercapacitors to support its range of energy harvesting micro-generators. "The CAP-XX supercapacitors work reliably over an expanded industrial temperature range of -40 to +85 degrees C, while other supercapacitors are limited to between -20 and +60 degrees C." The Perpetuum self-generating power source uses CAP-XX supercapacitors to enable battery-free operation for industrial condition monitoring in harsh environments.

These annual Design News awards highlight the electronics industry's best products. "Our Golden Mousetrap Awards give innovators the recognition they deserve," said editor-in-chief, John Dodge. "Their perseverance in these challenging economic times is admirable."

This is the second time Design News has honored CAP-XX, joining awards from Electronic Design, EDN, the European Electronics Industry, Frost and Sullivan and the World Economic Forum.

About Design News Golden Mousetrap Awards:

For more than two decades, the Design News Awards program has recognized engineering innovation and creativity in product design. This year, awards were given in 4 major categories: Electronics, Motion Control/Automation, Hardware/Software and Materials/Fastening/Joining/Assembly.

About CAP-XX:

CAP-XX is a world leader in the design and manufacture of thin, flat supercapacitors for space-constrained electronic devices. Supercapacitors resolve the performance limitations of batteries and other current-limited power supplies, bridging the gap between the peak power demanded by the load and that available from the source, and providing a backup power supply if the primary power source fails.

CAP-XX supercapacitors enable manufacturers to make smaller, thinner, longer-running and more feature-rich electronic devices such as camera phones, SSDs, PDAs, wireless sensors and medical devices. The company is listed on the Alternative Investment Market (AIM) in London and is based in Sydney, Australia with sales offices in the UK and USA.
