JSC Halyk Bank (hereinafter - the Bank) has become the winner in "Best Bank in Kazakhstan" nomination fifth year in a row and the Bank's subsidiary - JSC Halyk Finance - has won the "Best Investment Bank in Kazakhstan" nomination for the 3rd consecutive year in «Europe Banking Awards 2012» selection by «EMEA Finance», a leading international financial magazine.

As per the results of annual review made by «EMEA Finance» winners in «Europe Banking Awards 2012» category were determined. The Bank was named "Best Bank in Kazakshtan" fifth year in a row.

"Kazakhstan continued to grow strongly in 2012, and although the banking sector is still struggling with rising levels of non-performing loans our winner for best bank, Halyk Bank, has bucked this trend. The bank saw extremely strong growth in 2012 with net income increasing by 77.1% year-on-year to KZT70bn (US$464mn), and net loans and total assets increasing by 11.4% and 5.9%, respectively. The bank continues to lead the market in total deposits, pension assets under management and net income, and, when it comes to loans, outperforms the average of country's top five banks by 9.4%. The bank is a deserved repeat winner of this award," says Christopher Moore, Publisher & CEO, EMEA Finance.

JSC Halyk Finance has won the "Best Investment Bank in Kazakhstan" nomination for the 3rd consecutive year. At the end of March, JSC Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (the "KASE") has named JSC Halyk Finance the "Best Financial Advisor" for the 3rd year in a row as well.

In 2012, JSC Halyk Finance has helped its clients from a wide variety of industries raise $2.5 billion in both international and Kazakhstan's debt and equity capital markets. JSC Halyk Finance's successful public transactions include such groundbreaking and innovative transactions as issuance and placement of debut 5-year Islamic bonds "Sukuk al-Murabahah" by JSC Development Bank of Kazakhstan, debut IPO of common shares and GDRs of JSC Kcell on both the LSE and the KASE, issuance and placement of debut 5-year Tenge bond by Eurasian Development Bank, as well as prominent liability management transactions of JSC Development Bank of Kazakhstan and Zhaikmunai Group timely backed by their new Eurobond issues - both of which set fresh benchmarks not only in Kazakhstan, but globally as well.

"Halyk Finance was instrumental in helping to close some of Kazakhstan's most important deals in 2012. The bank was joint lead manager and bookrunner on the US$1bn, 10-year eurobond issued by the Development Bank of Kazakhstan (DBK) back in December. The issue came with a coupon of 4.326% and was the largest ever by a Kazakh institution," says Tim Burke, editor, EMEA Finance. "The partnership between Halyk Finance and DBK has proved extremely fruitful. In August the bank was joint lead manager and bookrunner on the DBK's MYR240mn, 5-year Murabahah sukuk. This was the first ever Islamic finance issue to come from the CIS region."

The winners were determined as per the results of voting, wherein leading international experts - financial industry analysts and banking consultants - took place. Upon the analysis of emerging markets banking sector a range of criteria, such as asset growth, profitability, development of strategic relations, client service, competitive price level and innovative products were taken into account.
