Press Release 4 August 2008
Ten Alps PLC
"TenΒ Alps" or "The Company"
Agreement to launch of online channel Optometry TV
Ten Alps Plc,Β the factual media company,Β is addingΒ Optometry TVΒ to its portfolio of B2B and professional development online TV channels.Β
Britain'sΒ 18,000Β eye care professionalsΒ willΒ from November 2008Β have their own online TV channel, OT-TV, in a deal between theΒ UK's Association of Optometrists (AOP) and Ten Alps.
Ten Alps PublishingΒ currently manages the fortnightlyΒ Optometry TodayΒ magazine for the AOP, theΒ UK's leading provider of Continuing Education and Training (CET) for the country's optometry profession. Now, through its agreement with Ten Alps, the AOP can extend its print and online CET offeringΒ via the launch of this newΒ Web TV service.
Ten Alps' B2B online TV portfolio already includesΒ Vets TV, Kent TVΒ and a major role inΒ Teachers TV,Β alongsideΒ 750 print titles - the migration of whichΒ to on line derivativesΒ is a keyΒ opportunity for Ten Alps.
The online optometry service will include news videos as well as clinicalΒ CET videos and associated exams which will earn Optometrists CET points needed to continue in practice. Each CET video will have its own sponsor.
There have already been expressions of interest from potential commercial partners - who can provide their own videos or commission Ten Alps to produce them.
As the leadingΒ professional and clinical body in theΒ UKΒ promoting the interests of the eye care profession, the AOP encourages and assists in the development and promotion of the highest standards of practice.Β The AOP represents the interests of all of its members to Parliament, Government and other institutions in theΒ United KingdomΒ and the European Community.
Bob Hughes, Chief Executive of the AOP commented, "We are eager not only to provide more accessible CET for optometrists and dispensing opticians but also to improve its efficacy. Distance learning is the most popular form of CET and web TV will vastly improve the learning experience - resulting in clinicians with better skills. Web TV is a natural development of our existing offering, using a visual medium for a visual professional where video really can add to understanding of complex techniques. For our profession the picture quality and resolution is extremely important and the technical quality of Ten Alps' offering is the key to this project's success"
Ian Carter, MD of Ten Alps Publishing London, added. "TenΒ AlpsΒ is delighted to partner the AOP in this new venture as a Web TV channel is an ideal brand extension for a membership organisation. We have found that leading organisations with sophisticated communication requirements are increasingly choosing a multi-media approach, with video a key component."
