Appointment of Non-Executive Director
Wynnstay, the agricultural and retail group, is pleased to announce the appointment of James John McCarthy as a Non-Executive Director of the Board, with immediate effect.
James, aged 55, is Chief Executive Officer of Poundland Ltd, the high street retailer, which he has led since he joined in 2006. His background in the retailing industry spans over 38 years and before joining Poundland Ltd, he was at J Sainsbury plc, where he was Managing Director of Convenience and also served on the operating, retail and investment boards. Between 1989 and 2003, James was Chief Executive Officer at T & S Stores plc, the convenience store chain which he built up to over 1,100 outlets before its successful sale to Tesco plc in 2003. In his earlier career, James held senior management positions at Next plc, the fashion retail chain, and the Birmingham Post and Mail Ltd.
James is also a Non-Executive Director of Dawson Holdings plc, a leading UK-based logistics company.
As the Group continues to expand its activities, both in its core agricultural sector and in specialist retailing, James's appointment brings significant additional corporate and management experience.
