Peer-reviewed published article supporting Tristel's technology and products

Tristel plc (AIM: TSTL), the manufacturer of infection prevention, contamination control and hygiene products, announces the publication of an article in a peer-reviewed journal that describes the benefits of Tristel products.

The study is titled "A randomised single-blind comparison of the effectiveness of the high-level disinfectants Tristel Fuse (chlorine dioxide) and Cidex OPA (ortho-phthaldehyde) for use with flexible cystoscopes". It has been published in The British Journal of Urology International (on line 10.1111 BJU 12208) and will be published within the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand (special issue volume 112).

The article compares the effectiveness, safety and cost of Tristel's chlorine dioxide Fuse chemistry with Cidex OPA (Johnson & Johnson, USA), in an automated endoscope reprocessor (Medivators Inc, USA) for high level disinfection of flexible cystoscopes.

Tristel Fuse, which was used within the Company's Stella decontamination system, was found to be as effective, more economic and easier for the nursing staff to use than the American products with which it was compared.

Tristel CEO, Paul Swinney, commented: "This study was initiated in 2009 by the Department of Urology, Tauranga Hospital, New Zealand, and the initial results were reported at the Societe Internationale d'Urologie congress, Shanghai, 2011.

"This is the first published study that compares our Tristel Fuse and Stella system with one of the world's leading combinations of disinfectant and endoscope washing machine. It demonstrates that our chlorine dioxide technology is just as safe and effective as the world's most widely used medical instrument disinfectant, whilst producing cost savings for hospitals.

"This study joins the growing body of published scientific evidence demonstrating that Tristel products are superior to the incumbent technologies still being used around the world."
