International Update - Mexico Presentation

Symphony Environmental Technologies plc, the specialist in advanced plastics technologies including controlled life and anti-microbial products, and waste-to-value group ("Symphony" or "the Group"), is pleased to announce that on 31st January at the residence of the British Ambassador, Her Excellency Judith Macgregor, Symphony presented its advanced plastic and other environmental solutions to business and political leaders of Mexico. Mexico has a population of 114 million.

Chief Executive Michael Laurier said:

"Symphony is working hard on its strategy to raise the profile of its products worldwide and we are making great progress in Latin America. We believe that our innovative technologies can make a real difference to the quality of the environment in Mexico and its neighbours in this region. We were delighted to see so many business and political leaders at the event, testament to the importance of Symphony's products in a growing market.

Particularly pleasing was the strong interest in the "d2Detector", a portable device which shows whether the plastic product has been correctly made, and helps brand-owners to detect counterfeiting."

Business leaders at the presentation included Rosalio Rodgriguez Senior Vice-President of Bimbo, one of the largest bakeries in the world, and a Symphony customer for three years. Also represented were Universities and research institutes including UNAM and CIQA together with the State Government of Morelos, Institute of Science & Technology of Mexico City, the National Ecological Institute of Mexico and the Federal Environment Ministry.

Furthermore, a press conference earlier in the day at the British Embassy was attended by more than 30 of Mexico's trade and environmental journalists and broadcast media. The event was supported by Rafael Blanco, Director of the Mexican Institute of Industrial Plastics; and a leading environmentalist Quimico Luis Manuel Guerra.

At the press conference, Bimbo's senior Vice-President Rodriguez said;

"We did a lot of research to find the right technology to degrade our plastic packaging. We did not need to change our machinery."

In Mexico, Symphony Environmental through its exclusive distributor Plasticos Degradables is actively involved in research and development with universities and institutions including UNAM, UAM and CIQA. Symphony and Plasticos Degradables have a research and development laboratory in the State of Morelos to develop new technologies for plastic packaging, and to provide a free quality-control service for Symphony's customers. A new laboratory with advanced equipment will be opened in March.
