CEO Speaks at US Society of Plastics Engineers Conference

Symphony Environmental Technologies Plc announces that its CEO, Michael Laurier, was invited to speak at the prestigious Annual Conference of the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) in Pittsburgh USA on 24th September 2025. 

SPE is the leading technical society for the global plastics industry. It fosters technical innovation and industry competitiveness through scientific development and commercialization. With over 22,500 members from 84 different countries, SPE is the largest and best-known plastics professional society in the world.

Michael Laurier said:

Banning plastics would be catastrophic - and ineffective. Plastics are essential for preserving food, protecting crops, and reducing waste. The real issue is the plastic that lingers in the environment, breaking down into microplastics and lasting for decades.

The solution isn't less plastic - it's smarter plastic. Products made with Symphony's d2w masterbatch degrade quickly after use, breaking down and biodegrading on land or sea. This technology not only offers an immediately scalable solution, it prevents long-term accumulation without disrupting supply chains or daily life.

With less than 9% of global plastic waste being recycled, traditional "reduce-reuse-recycle" strategies fall short. We need materials that work with the world as it is - not as we wish it were.

Symphony has led the development of d2w® oxo-biodegradable technology for over 25 years, transforming conventional plastics into biodegradable materials that outperform alternatives.

Unlike standard plastics, d2w contains a catalyst that accelerates oxidation and enables biodegradation - leaving no microplastics or toxic residues. The process converts polymers into short-chain molecules which can be consumed by microbes, leaving only water, CO₂, and biomass.

d2w plastics use only 1% masterbatch, can be recycled, and meet global standards including ASTM D6954, BS 8472, and AFNOR T51-808. Independent studies show over 90% biodegradation with no harm to plants, earthworms, or endocrine systems.
