Strategic Natural Resources PLC08 January 2008 Strategic Natural Resources PLC ("SNR" or the "Company"; Ticker: (SNRP) Board Appointment ----------------- The Board of Strategic Natural Resources PLC announces that it has appointed MrDavid John Nel to the Board of SNR as Chief Operating Officer ("COO"). The appointment of Mr Nel (aged 35), whose extensive mining industry experiencewill further strengthen the SNR Board, comes as the Company prepares to step upits operations at its coal prospect at Indwe in South Africa's Eastern Cape. Mr Nel is currently the commercial director of SNR's principal operatingsubsidiary, Elitheni Coal (Pty) Limited ("Elitheni"). He is also a director ofEastgen (Pty) Limited and Westgen (Pty) Limited, both of which are currently notactively trading; and Southern Cape Corridor Power (Pty) Limited, a SouthAfrican company created in 2006 in order to seek out and develop opportunitiesin the local mining and energy sector. Aside from these directorships, Mr Nelhas not held any additional directorships over the past five years. Mr Nel has 13 years' mining industry experience, seven of which have been spentbuilding Elitheni along with Barry Nel, SNR's Commercial Director. Previously,he spent six years in Accenture (South Africa) (Pty) Limited's Global BusinessConsultancy Resources Market Unit. Whilst with Accenture, Mr Nel was involved inthe project management of a number of large consulting projects in the SouthAfrican mining industry. Mr Nel started his career at Coalnet (Pty) Limited("Coalnet"), where his responsibilities included operational management andbusiness development. Coalnet was formed to assist independent junior miningoperations with the marketing and distribution of their coal as well as togenerate the development of green and brownfield coal resources for nichemarkets. Through both Elitheni and Coalnet, Mr Nel has had hands on experience in thedevelopment of medium sized coal mining operations and related activitiesincluding, the sales and distribution of coal for various independent coalproducers. With the combined experience of business consulting to the SouthAfrican mining industry, added to his operational and marketing experience inElitheni, Mr Nel has demonstrated ideal qualifications to become COO of SNR. Mr Nel holds a Masters degree in Commerce from the University of Johannesburg,having obtained his Bachelor of Commerce from the University of South Africa.
