Dr Schwebel retired from the position of Exploration Director of Esso Australiain 2006, after 26 years with ExxonMobil. Melbourne-based Dr Schwebel is ageologist by background, with a BSc (Hons) from Sydney University and a PhD fromFlinders University in South Australia. He has had extensive exposure to variouspetroleum systems and upstream petroleum management practices not only inAustralia and South East Asia, but also other parts of the world. Positions heldby Dr Schwebel during his career with ExxonMobil include Exploration Advisor inHouston, Production Geology Manager in Sydney; Manager Planning in Melbourne andInternational Planning Advisor in New Jersey. As a result of being on the boardsof several of ExxonMobil's upstream Australian companies, Dr Schwebel also has ahigh level of experience in corporate governance and asset acquisition anddivestment activities. Dr Schwebel has also represented ExxonMobil on variousAustralian government, industry and academic bodies. Commenting on Dr Schwebel's appointment, ROC's Chief Executive Officer, Dr JohnDoran, stated that: "Doug has a very high-standing reputation within and beyond the Australianupstream oil and gas industry, but no prior association with ROC.
