Quartix Holdings plc, one of Europe's leading suppliers of subscription-based vehicle tracking systems, software and services, is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a 2018 Queen's Award for Enterprise in the category of Innovation. The award is in recognition of having demonstrated innovation and outstanding results in the development of the Quartix SafeSpeed Database. The Queen's Awards for Enterprise are the UK's most prestigious business awards, recognising and celebrating business excellence across the UK.
Andy Walters, Quartix CEO commented: "We are delighted and honoured to receive this prestigious award. The SafeSpeed Database records detailed vehicle speed data for more than one million road segments in the UK. These speed distributions are used to help identify risky driving behaviour based on the appropriate or safe speed for each road, rather than relying on the statutory speed limit alone. This information is made available to our customers to help them manage risk and reduce accident rates."
The SafeSpeed Database is used both by insurers and commercial fleet operators. Insurers use the information it provides to encourage young drivers to drive more safely - particularly on rural roads, where most fatal accidents occur. Commercial fleet operators typically use the SafeSpeed Database as part of an overall driver scoring system aimed at reducing work-related vehicle accidents.
It is estimated that around 150 people are killed or seriously injured in the UK every week in crashes involving someone who was driving, riding or otherwise using the road for work purposes. The SafeSpeed Database is designed to help employers identify and eliminate high-risk driving behaviour.
