AWARD OF NEW INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS TOTALLING £42M
Morgan Sindall Group plc, the construction and regeneration group, today announces that its construction and infrastructure division, Morgan Sindall, has been appointed to deliver two new infrastructure projects in the rail and water sectors.
Network Rail has awarded Morgan Sindall the £20m North Doncaster Chord project. This project comprises the construction of a new 3.2km twin track railway and a six span viaduct to add extra capacity and remove a critical bottleneck from the East Coast Main Line (ECML).
The proposed development will include the construction of a permanent highway overbridge over the ECML and associated track and signalling connections. The works also involve replacing an existing level crossing with a highway bridge which will reduce the height of the new railway link, or 'chord', and provide road users with a safer crossing of the ECML.
The scheme will be delivered by Network Rail, Morgan Sindall and URS working in a new alliancing culture which will harness efficiencies and mitigate risk.
Separately, Morgan Sindall, in a joint venture with engineering consultants Grontmij, has been awarded a circa £22m project with Yorkshire Water Services to improve Bridlington's bathing water quality. This project includes the construction of two new combined sewer overflow chambers and an 800 metre long, two metre diameter, storm water tunnel. In addition, a new storm water pumping station will be constructed and the existing headworks building extended and its pumps upgraded. The Morgan Sindall/Grontmij team will be working at four separate sites across Bridlington.
