P-OLED Microdisplay Advantages Demonstrated at SID 2007

22 May 2007 16:00

MicroEmissive Displays (LSE:MED) will be demonstrating theadvantages of its advanced polymer OLED microdisplay technology on theCDT stand, booth 1020, at SID 2007. £ Demonstration kits for its production eyescreen(TM) products willshow how the devices can be readily incorporated into wearablehead-sets for personal TV and video viewing and electronic viewfindersfor digital cameras, camcorders and night vision systems. The demokits feature a series of video clips to showcase the superior imagequality of MED's P-OLED technology, its vivid colours and highcontrast ratio, and motion video that is free from blur and flicker.Headsets using eyescreen(TM) devices benefit further from theproducts' digital interface and low power consumption leading togreatly extended battery life. £ The eyescreen(TM) ME3204 is the first device to be manufactured atMED's new production facility in Dresden, Germany. The new line isfully automated and capable of making commercial volumes of displays -up to ten million units per annum once fully ramped. £ MED's Professor Ian Underwood said: "Our technology has beentalked and written about a great deal, and has won wide recognition inseveral independent awards. The buzz is getting louder now that itsbenefits are starting to be seen in real mass-market products of thefuture. We now have the production capacity to meet this growingdemand and our demo kits will spread the word even more widely amongstproduct design engineers looking for a fast, robust design-in solutionfor smaller, lighter-weight, stylish products." £ Prof Underwood, who is Chief Technology Officer of MicroEmissiveDisplays, presents a short course on: 'Fundamentals of Microdisplays'at the SID technical conference on Sunday 20th May at 15:00 - 19:00. £ Product details £ The eyescreen(TM) ME3204 is a colour P-OLED QVGA (320 x RGB x 240)microdisplay featuring 230K dots in a compact 6 mm (0.24") diagonalpixel array. It is mounted on a flex assembly to enable simplifieddesign-in to end products. The eyescreen(TM) ME3204 has a two-wireserial interface, BT.656 and 8-bit serial RBG digital inputs, and runsoff a single 2.5 V supply. £ With no backlight required, the integrated display driverelectronics and digital video interface simplify integration into awide range of systems and enable product designers to develop smallerand lighter weight products. The very high optical contrast ratiogives pictures with a vivid 3-D like appearance, and the eyescreen(TM)is effectively free from visible pixelation or 'chicken wire effect',thanks to this P-OLED microdisplay's high fill factor. £ About MicroEmissive Displays £ MicroEmissive Displays (MED - AIM, London Stock Exchange) is aleader in polymer organic light emitting diode (P-OLED) microdisplaytechnology. The company was founded in 1999 and has developed a uniqueemissive microdisplay technology by using a P-OLED layer on a CMOSsubstrate. Thefull colour eyescreen(TM) combines superb TV quality moving videoimages that are free from flicker, with ultra-low power consumption, enabling greatly extended battery life for the consumer. Thisenhancement in battery usage time made possible by the eyescreen(TM)will play a vital role in the widespread adoption of portablehead-sets for personal TV and video viewing in the consumermarketplace. The innovative design of the eyescreen(TM), with itsintegrated driver ICs and its digital interface, offers product designengineers a fast, robust design-in solution for smaller,lighter-weight, stylish products of the future, all for a sizecomparable with the pupil of the human eye. £ Awards £ Short-listed for the Best of British Industry Awards 2006, NextGeneration Award £ Winner of IEE Innovation in Engineering Award 2005, EmergingTechnologies Award £ Winner Gannochy Medal 2004, Professor Ian Underwood - Scotland'sTop Innovator £ Winner European Semiconductor Start-Up of the Year 2004 £ Listed in Tornado Insider's Top 100 in 2003 £ Listed in Tornado Insider's Top 100 in 2002 Copyright Business Wire 2007
