Leed reportsΒ successfulΒ flowΒ test at SorrentoΒ SaltΒ Dome,Β onshoreΒ Louisiana
Leed PetroleumΒ plc (AIM:LDP), the oil and gas exploration and production company focused on the Gulf of Mexico, today announces the successful flow testing of theΒ onshoreΒ LouisianaΒ Sorrento DomeΒ United LandsΒ "14-1"Β Well,Β which the Company plans to return to production.
The Sorrento Dome field is located in Ascension Parish,Β Louisiana, approximately 50 miles northwest ofΒ New Orleans. The field was discovered by Gulf Refining Company in 1929 and was primarily developed by Texaco during the 1950s. To date, the field has produced 750 BCF and 5,000 MBO. Leed acquired a 100 per cent. operated working interest in a portion of the Sorrento Dome field in April 2007 including theΒ shut-inΒ United Lands 13-1 and 14-1 wells and associated facilities .
TheΒ 14-1Β wellΒ (Leed: net working interest 100%),Β wasΒ shut-inΒ duringΒ 2006Β following various attempts to isolate waterΒ production.Β Β Leed's previous plans involvedΒ drillingΒ a sidetrack of the well, however,Β aΒ water saturation logΒ was runΒ in the well duringΒ JulyΒ 2009,Β whichΒ showedΒ significantlyΒ higher hydrocarbonΒ saturation in the vicinity of the perforationsΒ than previous logs run during 2004Β and 2006. AΒ flow testΒ wasΒ subsequentlyΒ conducted through the existing facility over four daysΒ andΒ aΒ stableΒ but restrictedΒ flowΒ rate of 1.3Β mmcfdΒ (217Β boepd),Β 1785Β bwpd,Β 644Β ftpΒ on aΒ 30/64thΒ Β to 32/64thΒ chokeΒ wasΒ establishedΒ for an extendedΒ 3Β day period.Β Β Bottom hole pressureΒ gauges confirmedΒ stable flowing bottom hole pressures duringΒ theΒ flow period.
Leed plans to convert the existing temporarily abandoned United Lands 11-1 well to a salt water disposal well and install a new gas sales meter on location prior to restoring production from the United Lands 14-1 well.
The work is planned over the coming months with production scheduledΒ to commence earlyΒ Q1Β 2010.
Howard Wilson, President and Chief Executive of Leed, commented:
"TheΒ successful flow test of the 14-1Β well atΒ theΒ Sorrento Dome Field isΒ the first stepΒ after theΒ EugeneΒ IslandΒ drilling programΒ towards anΒ increased andΒ diversifiedΒ production base.Β
The project will requireΒ minimal capital outlay and low operating expensesΒ will be incurred once production is established. We expect to commence gas sales in timeΒ to take advantage of theΒ historicallyΒ higher winterΒ natural gas prices. We are very pleased to be able to restore production from theΒ 14-1Β well,Β which has enabled the Company toΒ accelerateΒ productionΒ whilstΒ removing capitalΒ costsΒ from theΒ project."
