Greggs PLC12 January 2007 12 January 2007 GREGGS plc TRADING UPDATE Greggs is the UK's leading retailer specialising in sandwiches, savouries andother bakery products, with a particular focus on takeaway food and catering. Ithas over 1,300 retail outlets throughout the UK, trading under the Greggs andBakers Oven brands. Group Managing Director Sir Michael Darrington reports: "I am pleased to confirmthat the more positive sales trend noted in our last trading update on 18December continued to the end of the year, in line with our expectations.Like-for-like sales in the last three weeks of our financial year to 30 December2006 rose by 3.3 per cent. In consequence, like-for-like sales over the secondhalf as a whole increased by 0.9 per cent. "Like-for-like sales in the first week of 2007 showed a similar increase tothose over the Christmas period. "During the year we opened 48 new shops and closed 31, a higher than usualnumber of closures reflecting the rationalisation of Bakers Oven in the Northand Scotland. This gave us a net addition of 17 units and a total of 1,336 at 30December 2006. "The preliminary announcement of our 2006 results is scheduled for Friday, 9March 2007."
