First drillΒ hole of the 2009 programme hits high grade zinc-lead mineralisation - the best hole to date on the project |
|
β’ |
Significantly the hole is located 1.5 km northwest ofΒ the earlier discovery atΒ Stonepark and could represent a new and potentially higher-grade mineralised zone |

The planned 2009 exploration programme will include a further 5000 metres plus of diamond drilling - drilling is ongoing with two drill rigs currently onsite |
Connemara Mining, the AIM listed Irish zinc explorer,Β is pleased to report a successful start to the 2009 drilling programme inΒ Limerick. The programme is being operated by Teck Ireland Ltd., aΒ subsidiary of Teck Resources LimitedΒ -Β Canada's largest diversified miningΒ company.
The first drill hole of theΒ currentΒ programme (TC-2638-026) intersected 7.2 metres grading 13.07% zinc and 2.23% leadΒ from 216.05 metres depth, including 3.75m grading 17.06%Β zinc and 3.5% lead. The mineralisation consists of massive sphalerite, galena and pyrite and the ore-textures are typical ofΒ an "Irish-type" deposit such as Lisheen or Galmoy.

Hole 26 wasΒ drilledΒ 1.5 km northwest of the Stonepark zone, in an area referred to as Stonepark North. ThisΒ is the secondΒ hole at Stonepark North and is located 280 metres southeast of TC-2638-012, which in mid-2008, intersected a zone of colloform-textured limonite (after sulphide)Β andΒ returned 0.95m gradingΒ 2.73% zincΒ andΒ 4.73% leadΒ from 203.15m. This weathered sulphide zone (referred to as a "gossan") was intersected beneath deep overburden and within karstically weathered limestone/dolostone that was characterised by low coreΒ recovery in the hole.Β
Both intersections are at a similar depth and stratigraphic level within the host Waulsortian Limestone and together define what appears to be a new, and shallower, zone of mineralisation on theΒ LimerickΒ project.Β
The planned 2009 exploration programme will includeΒ a further 5000Β metresΒ plusΒ of diamond drilling and is being co-funded by Teck (75%) and Connemara Mining (25%). Drilling is ongoing with two drill rigs currently onΒ site. A number of geophysical surveys are also ongoing with the aim of defining additional drill targets outside the Stonepark and Stonepark North zones.
The Stonepark North zone is located approximately 4.5 km west of the Tobermalug discoveryΒ at Minco/Xstrata's Pallas Green project. In July 2009, Minco announced a JORC-compliant resource of 11,300,000 tonnes grading 10.2% zinc and 1.9% lead in the "Inferred" resource category at Tobermalug.
John Teeling, Chairman of Connemara Mining, said -Β
"This is a very positive result. The discovery has almost everything one would want - high grade, the right type ofΒ mineralisation, shallow depth andΒ isΒ located a good distance from the earlier discovery".
This release has been approved by Graham Reid, P. Geo., Director BRG Technical Services, consultants toΒ Connemara. Mr. Reid has 30 years mineral exploration and evaluation experience.
