That's absurd - Oceanmec have nothing to do with whether or not the well is dry - that's entirely down to the Operator and where he chooses to place the well location.

Does Geothermal have a place in the Global response to climate change?
Absolutely. Especially as it's the only renewable that provides a constant, predictable source of energy. That's a fact.

Can Geothermal power be produced economically? Yes it can and is in several Countries (e.g. Iceland, Kenya, Ethiopia). That's a fact.

Is the UK resource poor when it comes to the Geothermal gradient and therefore does not have easy access to the temperatures required to make Geothermal economical? Sadly, that's also a fact.

Is HH suitable for Geothermal energy production? No, the temperatures that exist in the current wells are too low. That's a fact.

Is induced seismicity a potential problem with Geothermal? Yes. That's a fact.

Have Geothermal projects been shut down because of induced seismicity? Yes. That's a fact.

Does Geothermal in the UK come under a different regulatory regime than O&G industry, otherwise the induced seismic events would have shut the Cornwall project down already? Yes. That's a fact.

Does UKOG have the money to pursue a Geothermal project? No. That's a fact.

UKOG are looking at "the addition of 250 kW of photovoltaic solar power and 100kW of battery storage" to the HH site.

So just for giggles, I looked up how much area the solar panels would take and according to the website below, it would be 2,500 sqm - or about 10% of the current wellsite.

a 250 kW photovoltaic system ( I scaled up the 50kW price) would cost over £300k and take 20 years to pay back.

it looks like 100kW of battery storage would cost around £50k and have to be replaced at least once during the 25 year lifetime of the solar cells.

I doubt it.

They could consider a 250kW wind turbine, but somehow I think the neighbours will object to a structure with a central tower that is 30m high and has a rotor radius of 15m that will be there all the time.

After all, SCC objected to a 45m tall drilling rig that was only going to be in place for a maximum of 3 months at Loxley....

BB might be good for district heating, but HH isn't even useful for that - it's simply not hot enough.

Ibug, on the previous Geothermal thread a few days ago, provided a link to the main Company involved in UK Geothermal (not CeraPhi - yet) and they stated that as far as the UK is concerned, there is very limited opportunity to repurpose Onshore O&G Wells and current Wells could only be repurposed economically if they didn't have to be sidetracked or reperforated & had a long production life left.

So BB might - just - fit into that category, but not HH.

All the stuff that Mm is posting is just Companies pitching for Govt subsidies without being honest about the actual costs.

There are numerous Geothermal plants all over the World that are producing energy very cost effectively, but they are in paces where the geothermal gradient is much higher than exists anywhere in the UK.

Nobody knows, as UKOG have never stated the CoS, or even put a basic structure map and Lithology column up for Basur-3. They haven't even given a target TD for the well.

Skwizz - I suspect nd is talking about the service where you could lodge paper shares with HL. They essentially would sell the paper shares and buy back through your HL account so you would be able to trade them through HL. You'd suffer some trading losses, but HL gave you a 'signing bonus' which should have covered most of that loss.

HL stopped providing this particular service when Covid hit.

Just got a message from HL about my holding with them and by post this morning about my paper share holding.

C'mon Ibug, you know that those things called FACTS aren't appreciated on this board.

Hasn't appeared on my HL account yet and haven't yet received a postal notice for the paper shares I hold either.

The CT Unit is being used on a different well pad, as the production equipment is already in place. And no, it's not Basur-3 - wayyyyy too early for that.

The pipe pictured is casing, not drill pipe.

DP is normally 5" (or 4 1/2" on the smaller Rigs) and has a much bigger OD on the tool joint (the bit that connects one length of pipe to another) than on the body.

With casing, the connection is normally +/- 1" larger than the body.

The casing pictured is 9 5/8" and is run after drilling a 12 1/4" hole.

IBug - it's a coiled tubing BOP, which is much smaller than a conventional BOP.
