Quote from the man running the show:
"....The modelling projected that if the UK did nothing, 81% of people would be infected and 510,000 would die from coronavirus by August.
The mitigation strategy is better, but would still result in about 250,000 deaths and completely overwhelm intensive care in the NHS...."
Can you not understand that our ONLY defence to this is self isolation. Nothing else in the armoury. IF the public don't or won't play ball then I can see the death toll running into 6 figures. As was insinuated last night on newsnight by senior health officials. If the public won't play ball then new laws will have to be drafted to ensure they do.
Regarding China. Let's assume they are or have been transparent, just for the benefit of this argument. 80,000 infections and 3200 deaths. If you extrapolate across their country, this same death rate, then you will note that 52,000,000 will have died because of the CV.
The reason the western world hasn't seen this or a similar outcome as the west is because the chinese are an authoritarian nation and ONE man tells all the others what to do - no discussions no arguments. When President Xi said lockdown, he meant LOCKDOWN or else. This is the reason why China is hopefully now emerging from a potential catastrophe.
Meanwhile over in la la land (western countries) decisions go thru committees and meetings and then they worry about hurting some snowflakes feelings about getting lonely or shutting schools late and upsetting the status quo and voila - there goes the morbidity rate - off the clock in Italy and soon to be Germany, France and then us....IF we don't grip this like Taiwan, Singapore, China etc all of whom are authoratarian. Or is it alread too late perhaps?
So IF panic is the word you want to use to get the message across, I'm all for it because if we'd typicallyh sat back and watched eastenders instead.....we'd all be DEAD by now!
