New Boohoo site in Leicester linked with automation25 Jul 2020 03:22
PROGRESS WITH NEW TECHNOLOGY LEICESTER – Fast fashion brand Boohoo has reportedly acquired a former Vauxhall dealership in the UK city of Leicester, which it will transform into a highly-automated garment factory.
It’s said that the Manchester brand bought the site before it became embroiled in allegations that supply chain workers were tasked with operating at full capacity throughout the pandemic for as little as £3.50, which it denies any link to.
The fast fashion etailer, founded by chief executive Umar Kamani, wants to build a 10,000 sq ft extension to its Wellington Mill headquarters in Ancoats, Manchester. The project would enable the business to accommodate around 200 additional staff. https://www.drapersonline.com/news/prettylittlething-to-expand-hq
Hopefully when Boohoo gets that state of the art leicester textile factory of their up and running, they will lead the way in this sector for fair pay anx standards. Leicester needs the jobs aswell.
It doesnt supprise me that H&M are named in that article about slave labour yarn factories in China. H&M have historically been known for it. Click my user name and see my previous posts about Nike and H&M sweat shops.
