Boohoo chief executive John Lyttle aims to open a 'model factory' in Leicester
Online retailer Boohoo aims to open a ‘model factory’ in Leicester after being engulfed in controversy over working conditions in the city’s textile industry.

Boohoo, which dropped two suppliers after an exposé of underpayment of staff in factories, could begin manufacturing its own lines in a joint-venture factory up and running by September.

Chief executive John Lyttle is visiting Leicester today, where he will tour a possible site for the factory, which he hopes will show Boohoo’s determination to address critics.

Following the allegations of modern slavery in Boohoo’s supply chain in recent weeks, the fashion giant has announced the details of an independent review of its operations.

The review will be led by Alison Levitt QC to consider Boohoo’s “obligations and relevant duties of care in relation to the workforce in its Leicester supply chain”.

Levitt will produce a full report, including recommendations for Boohoo to consider, by September 15.
