John, may I suggest you research the company.
According to the slr cpr, the most economic method would've been to re-enter grf1 to retest, which was found on the western edge of the target. However, being an old well the integrity is questionable and the results may not be accurate. Instead they proposed drilling a new well nearby to similar depths of 2km. This well would help derisk and affirm what both the slr and pathfinder cpr proposed is down there. Both the ceo and coo have confirmed it achieved its objectives.
Also from the cpr, there's much deeper targets in the triasic area and further drills will need to test to a depth of 5km. Mou-1, according to Paul, has confirmed there's a "kitchen" down there and migration of thermogenic gas.
As GRH has already pointed out, paul has found what he was looking for. Why spend more money to do further tests.
Anyone who thought we'd flow/sell gas from Mou1 needs to do more research. Yes we're close to the maghreb pipeline, however building the infrastructure is still expensive. A lot of regulatory time consuming processes. Whoever we sell the asset to can deal with that.
MOU-1 was the cheapest well to drill. It was funded by a placing at 4p (long time ago). At that stage raising for a deeper well would've been far more dilutive to the company. The plan was that a successful Mou1 result would open up alternative finance/jv opportunities.
The man in charge has said it successfully achieved what it set out to do. Not only that but it has also confirmed new targets. 700metres of gas seeping. The nutech petrophysical study on grf1 showed saturation of 50% in the small area that was tested around 1650metres. Remember elf were looking for oil when they drilled grf-1. Gas was not interesting 50 years ago.
Our well showed gas all the way up to 650metres depth.
Yes, the subsequent drills were dependent on Mou1 being successful.
Consider the data we have from old wells CPRs, petrophysical studies and Paul's confidence. Initial testing of Mou1 was good enough for him to say we're going for mou-4, once the rig is free again. There was no panic and back to the drawing board.
