The Minstry of Energy Hydrocarbon Unit - 'According to the Hydrocarbon Unit, resetting those affected by coal extraction in Phulbari will take 10-12 years. A resettlement plan has been created following the ADB's guidelines. The plan states no relocation will occur before compensation and resettlement assistance are settled. Plans are in place to create a village with all necessary amenities near the mine, including land allocation and a model town. The acquired land will allow for agricultural use before mining begins. The cost of implementing the resettlement project has been estimated at nearly 1 billion dollars.
The Ministry of Energy claims that an Economic Growth Center will be established around the Phulbari coal mine, contributing about 1 percent to the country's GDP. The mining activities will create employment for 17,000 people. Additionally, direct and indirect employment in related industries will provide jobs for 50,000 people. In addition to coal, approximately 17 billion dollars worth of glass sand, clay, gravel, and construction sand can be extracted from the upper layers of the coal seam.'
