Adani Power is “charging for the quality of Newcastle [Australian] coal”, but “giving [us] the coal from Indonesia”.

“There are significant outstanding payments. The admitted and undisputed dues, including late payment surcharges, are over $250 million, and the disputed amount is also similar, bringing our overall dues to about half a billion dollars.”

Bangladesh paid Adani a tariff of 14.87 taka ($0.1220) per unit during the fiscal year to June 30, 2024, higher than an average of 9.57 taka for power supplied by other Indian companies.

Data centres require incredible amounts of uninterrupted electricty supply. On the same day Bungla pushes data centres, whilst not paying its coal powered electricity bills there are threats of electricity blackout warnings.

Anu Muhammad can whine and adjust the facts as much as he likes but the state Bangladesh is in now is because the coal was left underground and cost Bangladesh $billions in lost revenue and import coal costs.

That is no excuse to not just extend the existing Mou. Powerchina could keep GCM tied up and change the terms after the election if it is needed. Some on here predicted the straightforward renewal, some said it would be announced on the day of the AGM like in other years. Even at the AGM the board could not say when it would be extended. So right now there is no MOU. As usual on here, a hugely significant developments is simply brushed under the carpet and not discussed. So why have Powerchina not extended the MOU? It was still extended in Dec2024 even though the Powerchina mine contract was also in play. So why not now?

They are tied into 30 year deals for the coal powerstations and if they dont use them they still have to pay for them. Their massive problem is finding the coal to run them. Importing coal is slowly killing their economy as any dollars they bring in has to go straight back out the door.
