Having looked at the other covid tests, Avacta's appears to be the best.
Other tests are mainly nasopharyngeal (brain poke) or there is a nasal test which is not as sensitive as Avacta's.
There are a couple of saliva tests but they do not give Ct values so it isn't clear how good they are.
Would be useful to know whether Innova test detects the delta variant in people who are asymptomatic.
That is the advantage of Avacta's test, i.e. it is so sensitive it detects virus in people who have no symptoms - but who are still spreading it.
Sky - you know the UK gov have been accused of cronyism? It must be difficult for AS working with them. But hopefully he will sell in Europe.
Soon we will be reading in the newspapers about how the rest of Europe is out of the pandemic. Or more likely - we will hear nothing about it in the news.
Wylie - I agree, but we deserve to use them, especially when our lives and our families lives are at risk.
And especially considering how many thousands have already died in UK.
Unfortunately, it could well be that other countries will end up using the supply instead of us.
AS said in presentation that covid has provided a 'global showcase for the affimers platform' and 'put them on the map'.
I think he also said he had new potential global partners.
Imagine some companies could feel quite threatened too.
I think it's because the 10th May RNS lead us to believe the test would be on sale within days. When it wasn't, people started selling - which lead to more and more selling, and especially after yesterday's presentation.
I expect nothing has changed - we were just given unrealistic timelines for sales in the first instance.
When you look at all the products, most either seem to be the nasopharyngeal swabs (brain poke) or they only detect after symptoms appear.
Unlike Avacta's test, i.e. a nasal swab, before symptoms appear, and with high S&S values.
This is what the bioserve website states about the covid tests it is selling '.....With a sensitivity of >90% and a specificity of 100%, you will receive your result in only 5 β 8 minutes!'
Only >90% sensitivity? I wonder what that means - 91%?
Not as good as Avacta's test
Yes, it is very new technology. The AZ vaccine is a genetically engineered virus. I hope this vaccine virus will not recombine with the real covid virus (which may be in people's bodies already at the time of vaccination) to generate a brand new virus which can replicate.
It's important to consider potential side effects of vaccine versus potential side effects of covid itself.
I have known people who are much more ill from the vaccine than from covid.
I really don't understand why people who are not at any serious risk from covid are being encouraged to get the vaccine.
