RE: Crowd Numbers & Income16 Mar 2015 15:02
The problem for Rangers past and present is that, while all other clubs would love the income from a 35k crowd, the size of the overall operation needs high crowd numbers just to balance the books. The large and expectant fan base is as much a burden as it is a benefit.
A decent club and team on the park should, with appropriate austerity to get things under control, be able to survive on the fans income alone, but will it be of a quality that fans expect and be one that will be competitive against Celtic and in Europe?
History has shown us that to get to that level additional monies have to be found by either soft loans, tax avoidance or simple non payment of social taxes.
Everyone is wise to the tax dodges now, all the bank managers doors are well shut, so it is currently down to fans pouring through the gates and/or King and the 3 Bears having deep pockets.
Time will tell if that is enough.
