The response is a lot more upbeat than many here expected I think. I like KB's argument and to me, it sounds compelling. Any thoughts?

Beowulf Mining PLC - exploration and development of gold, copper, lead-zinc-silver and graphite with projects in Finland, Sweden and Kosovo - Mulls UNESCO's comments on the company's application for an exploitation concession for the Kallak iron ore project, Sweden. UNESCO argues the Swedish government should seek a "revised and extended in-depth assessment" to consider the impact of the project on a world heritage property. Beowulf says the planned mine is not located in Laponian Area, a world heritage property. UNESCO also takes the issue to how planned mine may affect reindeer herding. Beowulf says: "Reindeer herding is not a static activity and the importance of any specific area varies from year to year. Reindeer migrate over an area, so their presence on and around Kallak is days in the year and not permanent. The company has been careful in its analyses to consider the proposed mine's potential impacts on Jahkagaska tjiellde's reindeer herding activities in their totality."

Beowulf Chief Executive Kurt Budge adds: "The company maintains it is inappropriate for UNESCO to write about an area that we would strongly argue falls outside of its jurisdiction." CEO adds that: "Importantly, UNESCO does not conclude that Kallak cannot be mined." Says the company has already spoken to the government and will be doing so again to seek clarity on the next steps.

Takayama. I remain an optimist, but not holding my breath before Q4 at least. Don't know why you think it would drop. I think the only thing that has changed is that the govt must be closer to a decision. If they actually say no, then expect 2p during the lawsuit for sure.

Oh and what about Mr Baylan releasing price-sensitive information to Joe Public without an RNS....tut tut tut, over the coals again Mr Baylan. But don't worry, there will be a McDonalds in Jokkmokk soon, he might be able to get a job there :-)

Nice response, lays it all out in one sheet. Kallak is way outside the boundaries of the WHA of Laponia, mining and reindeer herding successfully co-exist elsewhere (around LKAB Mines). Its all upside and 25 to 30 years later, the reindeer get it back. Job done, lets move on and start diggin.

Sorry Oaktree, but you seem to have forgotten that the Govt issued the license to spend this money on the exploration. This infers that an economic find with a compliant EIA will be awarded an exploitation concession. Im not a lawyer but that sounds easy.

The problem appears to be that the govt are just so unprofessional. If they want the mine, they say, it will happen and get everyone together to broker the agreement. If they don't want it, then why the hell do they give licenses, and consequently the lawsuit. This is like Chinese whispers.

Because they wanted the bridge. It seems Baylan doesn't want the mine. At least not with BEM

TSP. There is not a single mine anywhere in the world which will have no environmental impact. Not now, or ever. Does this mean we should not mine materials necessary to the planned energy transition? In addition, this impact is for the life of the mine. After the mine life the land will be returned to reindeer.
We all want a greener futurer but to get there we need to operate responsibly, the answer will never be "Just dont do it"it will just be done somewhere else, probably where it is less controlled.
So is it better to control the activities with people who care or to bury head in sand and just get the materials shipped in from Wherever..........

I agree but it also states that certain considerations were not considerred in the EIA. But why did the govt not come back with issues regarding the EIA. This whole thing is a joke.

So teh impact of a mine 30km away is high because Reindeer Husbandry outside the zone affects what is inside the zone and the trucking.
This is a con.

It is good to see the pressurecontinue, but it seems like water off a ducks back to Mr Baylan, whos primary job appears to be to NOT do his job.

I guess like everything thing else, we have to take the silver lining and assume it meant that something is happening as opposed to nothing. But yes I am sure Mr Baylan is taking practice swings ready to knock the ball back out to someone else rather than doing his job and taking a decision.

Some time ago, the lady from UNESCO said "We can expect a response soon"
From an organisation that takes 7 months to answer such a simple question , I guess we should have known that "Soon"didnt actually mean soon.................
