I'm a realist. We don't know what mental state putin is in. We have no idea how far he'll go. This has nothing to do with being a wet blanket or a conscientious objector. This is how the world has worked for 50+ years. Appeasement and attrition. We don't control any nuclear super power. And unless you're absolutely sure putin won't use his nukes we cannot interfere past assistance. Hitler didn't have nukes or the war would have been far different.

Making empty statements like "stop putin" "don't let him away with it"

How many deaths we allowing? 1million in Iraq and Afghanistan from memory. What we expecting here with a top military power as opposition?

We didn't take Berlin, we didnt liberate the Eastern block the fall of communism did that. We fell asleep at the wheel with populist leaders. We now have trudeau and biden and bojo dealing with "sanctions"

We cannot attack a nuclear power. Nor can we win a conventional war. Their hardware is significant

The west is powerless, we have no authority. The best we could do is appease Putin and dare I say it keep him on good terms. Trump did this successfully, and he was tarnished for it. I think Russia just wants to punish the west for the sanctions following crimea. Not sure they'll play this out and somehow come out with sanctions being removed. If that was possible maybe this would be a positive but I can't see the west doing that.

It seems all very pointless unless he wants to occupy Ukraine but ultimately both sides will lose 10s of thousands of men, women and children If that happens.
