But not always. More often than not they just use us to further their ends and have little consideration for their small shareholders other than to keep them onboard at critical times.

Although I was originally from Poole I spent quite a few years on North Sea rigs and met ex-BP production staff who had worked at Wytch Farm and horizontal drilling was in its infancy in the North Sea (although by then well developed in the US) . I think the main relevance to Wressle etc is that apart from the reluctance to grant planning, more drilling licences and exploration and ecological consideration the risk to the environment should be considerably less than fracking and close to zero.. Similarly another field the Beatrice with four installations was producing in a very sensitive offshore environmental located at the entrance to Moray Firth and close in to the coast. Again opposition was muted in those days because environmental awareness was less of an issue then. I do not know whether or not there were any environmental problems arising. Nevertheless that field produced for a good many years. There has in the past been onshore exploration drilling in believe it or not the New Forest but again there wasn't a big green lobby and it was mainly residents opposing it. My conclusion is that there has proved very little risk from exploration and drilling in environmentally sensitive areas and given the oil and gas problems facing the economy environmental opposition should not be an issue. Especially if extended reach production confines the rig to a small footprint. I would have thought present day concerns of securing supplies far outweighs any environmental considerations every time given such minimal risk to the environment. Planning issues may well become a thing of the past assuming a transition to renewable energy will take many years to achieve. So overall I am still very very bullish about our onshore drilling concessions. Thanks again for the interesting aside about Wytch Farm. I am a firm believer in looking at recent history when planning the future. No point in re-inventing the wheel.

VMH - Just a point that Wytch Farm is in Purbeck Dorset.
For those who may be interested in its history. - When geologists refer to the Kimmeridge layer, mentioned in drilling in the North Weald for example and this extends all the way up through the North Sea to the prolific northern North Sea production fields and is one of the well known marker layers for drilling, This name originates on the coast at Kimmeridge Bay where shale appears close to the surface. My uncle who lived in the area reckoned the shale bled oil in the 1930s and everyone was sure there was oil to be drilled. Eventually several wells were drilled at Kimmeridge Bay and production in the 1960s was 350 bopd from a single well. The Kimmeridge nodding donkey on the Purbeck coast overlooking the bay is still pumping oil from that layer and is now down to about 60 bopd. In fact you can walk up to it in its enclosure or at least you could when I walked past it a few years ago and Its the oldest pump (no doubt virtually replaced over the years in bits) in the UK. The extension of the same oil layer led to Wytch Farm the largest onshore oil field in Europe being developed in the 1970s. by British Gas. Still operating but it had pioneered (UK) extended reach/horizontal drilling into Studland Bay along with a few oil other North Sea oil rigs although admittedly long after it was developed in US. Still going strong, or not so strong it is interesting that the development is beneath some of the obscenely expensive real estate at Sandbanks and what's more in an area of outstanding natural beauty and in a SSSI. When it was there was little if any opposition (or interest from the locals) as no one knew much about it at the time. My family in Poole were really quite surprised when I told them just how much was being produced and where it was located and 'so far' there has been no damage to the environment or intrusion from any of it whatsoever. The eco-warriors should go and have a look at it if only to see how safe such an operation is in reality.

This country has been well and truly shocked by this invasion mainly because its no more distant than a European holiday destination, partly because so many Ukrainians speak fluent English and so are 'one of us' and partly because the slaughter in Syria, a preamble if ever there was one, was of 'foreigners' and 'nothing to do with us' We live in a world order and our politicians should be more vocal in condemning governments like that in Myanamar for the misery they are inflicting on their own people and not to have to wait till its on our doorstep. But then it won't happen because most in this country really don't want to know especially when we have more urgent matters like Boris's No 10 partying,

zoros - did we get upset by the Russian behaviour in Syria, no it was a long way away and we felt 'safe'. Now that its happening in our own backyard its different, we might actually get involved. The misery that the bombing campaign in that filthy war was conducted with complete indifference for the suffering of civilians which is / was verging on sadism. Make no bones about it, it has come our way and we have to face it. I can't do anything except pray that the Russian people will eventually see through their leader and somehow side-line him. I am not hopeful.

What many have little understanding of is that those countries bounding Russia and central Europe have been fought over for centuries with the first lot, e.g Ghenghis Khan and his murderous tribes coming from the east, then the other lot coming from the West and so on down the centuries. Abject misery and poverty with the necessity of constantly having to change allegiances depending on whether the east wind blew or the west wind blew and destroyed them. The only consolation is that dictators like Hitler promised the German people sunny uplands after the Nazi revival. DIfference is between then and now the news of invasion of countries took days or even weeks to reach the ordinary people and then only through a propaganda war machine. Today thank God with camera phones, instant communications and fake news the ordinary Joe now can now see for him/herself what is going on. Even once the Ukraine communication infrastructure is crippled or destroyed modern drones and satellites will establish very quickly what is really going on and personally I just do not believe the Russian people will stand for Putin because he has nothing at all to offer them in return unlike Hitler. Cela 24 what planet are you on? Get into production? The truth is where is the money coming from? Placings of course and exploration is far cheaper than production start ups. Our assets are under the ground.

That's why small companies are on AIM to raise money easily and cheaply by placings. Dilution is a risk at any time if you choose to put your hard earned savings into AIM. Just suck it up or buy more after dilution if you have confidence in the future. At this rate unmined assets far outweigh the capitalisation.

we will all, particularly the expro companies become flavour of the year. It takes headlines and magic watershed numbers like 2000 before everyone jumps on the bandwagon. Be it gold shares or bars of gold sold by dodgy traders everyone will want a bit of the action and bitcoin will take a back seat. Can't hide bitcoins under your mattress for a rainy day. Physical assets are what are needed in these coming days of rampant inflation and global uncertainty. Our time will come, sooner rather than later.
