Industrial gases firm Air Liquide has taken a final investment decision on its 200MW ELYgator project in the Dutch port of Rotterdam.

The company last week bagged an undisclosed amount of subsidy for the facility from the Dutch government’s OWE tender, as well as previously securing funding via the EU’s Hy2Use Important Projects of Common European Interest scheme and its Innovation Fund.

However, Air Liquide has still pledged to invest more than €500m to build, own and operate ELYgator, which is scheduled to be operational by the end of 2027.

Major consumer products company Kimberly-Clark has today (Wednesday) signed two deals worth a a combined £125 million ($169 million), with green hydrogen project developers Carlton Power and HYRO to use renewable H2 from their facilities in its manufacturing operations in the UK.

Kimberly-Clark, which owns brands such as Andrex and Kleenex, will displace natural gas — currently used to generate steam at its factories — with green hydrogen.

Carlton Power will build a green H2 facility next to Kimberly-Clark’s Barrow plant and is expected to supply 100GWh of hydrogen per year.
