These proceeds should go towards paying off the debt. Bp should make a statement to confirm what their intensions are and especially what if anything they intend to do with the £23 billion debt. IMO.
All this confusion can only be blamed on the CEO. There's been a lack of firm leadership and policy clarity, saying that there have been recent signs of some improvement.
RE: Time has come to ramp up U.S. gas output, BP CEO says12 Mar 2025 09:30
This is very encouraging news. Emphasis on gas production seems very logical given how much gas prices and demand have increased and gas is considered environmentally the lesser of all fossil fuels—another step in the right direction.
It's intriguing that Elliot is sniffing at BP having taken out a long position and then equally shorting another. Is this a small part of something much bigger that just might result in some very positive moves for BP sp?
Why announce the value of the buybacks within a specific timeframe? The sp is negative value right now and the general market - ftse is up over 1% - something here just doesn't seem right.
It's widely accepted there will be a change of course resulting in the return to oil and gas and away from the onward march to renewables and possible substantial asset deposals all to be confirmed tomorrow. So why are the market makers in the sp not reflecting this - sp continues to languish!
Wednesday's strategy presentation is the last window of opportunity for the BoDs to make commitments that are fundamentally opposite to the ridiculous stated aims of lower gas and oil production and renewables of the past few years. Investors have voiced their opinions loud and clear. I hope and believe that we will hear a coherent plan to increase shareholder value and potential sales of internal businesses that a possible re-rating could be on the cards. Fingers crossed for Wednesday.
I also very much share your thoughts. The current sp should respond favorably in the coming days, especially with the Strategic Review presentation next Wednesday - fingers crossed.
On the day it went ex divi and JP Morgan raises it price forecast to 510p sp trades down 2.5%. With all the potential upsides in the sp its dissapointing to see the sp take two steps back.
Starmer and co should take the initiative by reaching out to Russia and forward the peace process which both sides desire which of course would do no harm in assets held by Putin - wishful thinging I'm afraid.
With all that's going on, I'm personally pleased, after some scary moments in the recent past, to be invested here. There is loads of potential for the sp going forward.
RE: Elliot has built major stake in BP - Bloomberg9 Feb 2025 10:44
Reading the comments posted, it would appear that something quite fundamental and sensitive is going to happen especially to the SP. I'm keeping my fingers crossed— the next couple of weeks should be interesting.
US crude up 3% and Gas futures are up 8.5%. These very commodities which is the business of BP. SP down 6p - why? Demand has not all of a sudden expected to be lower, so the coffers are filling upat the till! The sp can go only one way from here - up!
I agree with your view for the reasons you state. Also the U.S. market has so outperformed the FTSE that we are surely due for a catch up and the froth in the U.S. will come off?
We all do want an increase in s.p. but rational moves are needed to achieve a much improved s.p.
RE: BP's Kaskida is just the beginning22 Jan 2025 08:52
The news gets better and better for bp. Future investments in place to ensure financial visibility and coupled with the mantra of Drill baby drill, regulatory restrictions are eased which again should feed into bp's bottom line.
As shareholders, we all want the same outcome. The SP is disappointing and the market makers are firmly in a particular mindset. We are all aware of the positive developments Bp have and are undertaking. All the positives will feed into the bottom line for a preditor company/ shareholders but ultimately we the shareholders are the long-term winners ( next ex divi date 20th feb. ) We just need to hold our nerves and be patient. imo.
Levels since the past couple of months or so have far exceeded analysts projections during and before this timeframe. All this means the coffers of bp are being replenished nicely.
