Obviously a headline that said 'SF launched short assault on DT but its closed now ' doesn't have same impact, by definition its old news.

That being said I think the horse has already bolted and we're in the clean up phase now.

My understanding is that short positions don't have t be declared until they reach 0.5% of market capitalisation.
In DTs case at present values that means anything over £15m.
Warning - I'm going to do a Charles now.
So if they took a position around £8 - £9 / share they could have had up to 1.5m shares and sitting on a 100% gain.
It feels to me that SF have reached an end game and planting a story with a compliant journo will help them close out this week.
That said we will never know how many Hedge Funds were / are shorting if they adopt the same tactics.
Having read their analysis of BOO from a couple of years ago you can see how they make money for their clients. It was quite compelling and has proved accurate.
That said I'm not saying that DT has further to fall as the positive trade update may have halted the slide. It all depends how the numbers are interpreted .

Trading update first week February. Me a concern fore some. Any increased cost of doing business is my concern but generally the luxury market has legs and WOSG are well positioned to increase market share.

Sanchez, I guess its a debate about 'worth'. As you say it went up and down like a fiddlers elbow - to be polite- but was it 'worth £9 - £10? Due to a shortage of stock and irrational overexuberance that's where we ended up. It was only worth that because people were prepared to pay that.

Usual balanced analysis Sheltie. I get the feeling that if I said that there was upward pressure and the charts show SP will be £6 by 31st Jan there are some here who'd believe me. The truth is that despite an upbeat RNS there are 'headwinds' to overcome. Managing initial stakeholder sell offs is a big one. ML is another and despite optimistic noises from some I doubt this will be resolved this year in any definitive way. There may be some truth in the FTSE being Tech stock averse but I think its more a case of them being averse to companies not making a profit - even if there is potential to do so.

With so many shares held by individuals and start up funds these offloads will happen. To VH's point its not a bad thing in the long term as it will make the equity more liquid. For me the one thing DT have not been strong at is managing communications with the outside world. We had Vanessa selling £9m the day after another director had bought a much smaller amount, bombing the price. And now the mealy mouthed RNS yesterday afternoon that had no narrative and had people trying to work out if it was a buy or a sell. The least they could have done was said she sold them for tax purposes.

It was defo a disposal and not to ML as that would trigger another RNS as his holdings would also change.
The brokers probably had buyers lined up, she didn't get up yesterday and decide to offload over 4m shares.

Wholeheartedly agree that the paradigm has shifted even if some are still reliving the heady rollercoaster ride of a few months ago up to £10. As was quoted somewhere today, the IPO was small - as in a small amount of equity was released compared with the overall value of shares. Thus volatility is far greater than a 'grown up' share and why it got into the FTSE100 by accident - Morrison' going private - and was unceremoniously dumped out at the first opportunity. I made the mistake of predicting the SP for today earlier which I won't repeat but it is important for everyone to make their own informed decisions about buying, selling, holding or avoiding based on their research and not get sucked into FOMO or actions caused by over exuberant posts.

Can I suggest these sorts of comments are not adding any value? I sense that before the broker note from them you had never heard of Peel Hunt, I know I hadn't. It doesn't add anything to accuse anyone who in your words are bearish of having a negative agenda. Yours is a bullish agenda, mine is a balanced agenda and some people have a skeptical agenda. As Kick says most people on this board are here because they want to see the company - and hence their personal finances - do well.
