Not a new problem though- I was a GP Practice Manager late 90's/early 2000 and, having come from the private sector was shocked to see the layers of management/ little empire builders who ruled the roost and woe betide anyone who got in their way, especially in the local Health Authority.

Wastage of money and duplication of effort was rampant but there was nobody, but nobody, prepared to do anything about it because of mutual self interest. Bad debts ( i.e. folk flocking in from abroad and having treatment then pleading poverty) in just 4 local hospitals had totalled nearly £500k the previous year but when the matter was raised on high I was told it "represented only xxxxxxx% of turnover" the usual method of masking losses.

Has any thing changed-it seems not- a megalith out of control.

I'm not a chartist but if you look at the 1 year graph you will see 4 spikes since last November, each one higher than the last with corresponding falls each one a reduction on the previous one. Remains to be seen if another spike is imminent though bearing in mind market conditions. People still need insurance in all its various guises and we have a cash rich company paying good dividends.

IF this solely due to inflation/lower consumption fears then how come Shell is down only 0.11% Vs our 1.8%.
Perhaps the recent meteoric rise was overdone and this is a natural correction?
Agree re the chart patterns though-let's hope this follows suit.

Always find it remarkable that we talk ourselves into a recession. Mervyn King was a Master of the subject and resorted to frequent doom and gloom oration and the present incumbent, surely a beneficiary of "The Peter Principle" bearing in mind he presided over several shameful debacles when head of the FCA, is no different.
Both main indices are marginally up today but BP has bucked the trend unfortunately after a glorious month of improvement.

Dunno about that. The Nikkei took a beating yesterday but has bounced back today. The DowJ was off fractionally yesterday-today????? Anybody's guess.
We are the only big Oily to go from Top 20 Gainers to Top 20 Losers this morning-maybe the market saw 570 as a pivotal point as an end to the rapid improvement of nigh on 30% since 4th July?

There are those on this board who would take that for the whole company on the basis of "a bird in the hand" etc etc rather than continuing to hold for telephone number figures which might not transpire for several years. None of us (including Dr. Tim and Chums) is getting any younger and being the richest man in the graveyard is not an attractive proposition. At £3.67 some very handsome profits would accrue.
