Point taken to some extent but surely a UK National fiddling his tax return is a far cry from alleged international financial skulduggery and therefore subject to the penalties imposed by HMRC rather than involving the Serious Farce Office?

As I have said before on a few occasions political undertones were at work from the outset. The SFO investigation was dropped on us just after Treeza's snap election announcement: Asfari is one of the Tory elite supporters:almost certainly there was leaked information from the SFO allowing 2 institutions to increase their short positions just 24 hours before the announcement of the SFO investigation etc etc.
Why was this latter scenario not the subject of a FCA investigation?
Too many vested interests that's why.
Cynical? In view of what passes for morals at whatever level nowadays-no-just trying to be realistic.

I think your last line sums up the whole corrupt mess which is corporate life today.

Many years ago I attended a financial course run by 2 Gurus from the London Business School. One question posed to us was "what is uppermost in a company director's mind". We all answered with the usual hoary old chestnuts-growth:dividends:profits etc etc. The Senior Guru said "gentlemen-you disappoint me-I thought you were all streetwise chaps (or similar)" "The answer is HIMSELF!! He has an expensive house/car/Wife and 2 kids at Public School etc etc". THAT is why his mind is not where it should be"
