Don't know if you read this bb... so...could someone please paste this on the other BB.
Moljen, sorry to read your news about your dad. Firstly, see if your dad's hospital is one of the trial sites. Remember, your dad can insist with his GP to be treated at a hospital of his choice. All hospitals that run clinical trials will have research nurses. A main part of their role is to recruit patients... it may sound odd to the lay person but they will have a far greater insight into the potential eligibility ...more so than the patients medical team. Research nurses will have the "power" to commence bloods, investigations and refer to trial medical teams. They don't need the patients named Consultant agreeing to the patient being enrolled into the trial. This is because hospitals receive so much money for each patient recruited....hence trial nurses trawl for patients and individual medical teams can not obstruct the process. They will most likely trawl the data of any new patient and make assessments for eligibility... and then directly approach the patient. So , if your dad's hospital is a Moditope trial hospital the research nurses will most likely review his medical notes and assess if he is suitable for the trial. But its well worth asking to speak to a trial nurse and asking what the current options are available. Also , ask the medical team about any trials available, cover all options.
Wishing you both all my best. Golden rule for getting the best NHS treatment....be kind and polite... but at the same time be passively aggressive .
