This is the area where Cornish Lithium(CL) and British Lithium are looking to extract lithium from rock as opposed to Brine.
CL has a JV with Imerys which is mining china clay. My understanding is that the spoil tips ( Cornish Alps) have a similar level of lithium per tonne as the to be mined material.

Someone is going to have to buy over half a million shares to close their short position at some point. Its good to know there may be a forced buyer out there some time.

A Doncaster-based maker of equipment to produce hydrogen will join the stock market to capitalise on booming demand for the clean-burning gas.

Clean Power Hydrogen Group (CPH2) said its electrolysers can produce hydrogen in a cheaper and more sustainable way by ditching the membranes typically used in the process.

It is expecting to join Aim, London’s junior market, next month to raise £50m. An announcement about its intention to float is expected today.

Founders Nigel Williamson and Joe Scott spent several years working on research and development before moving into commercial production over the latest two years.

The company sold its first unit in Northern Ireland last year and is aiming to hit 4 gigawatts of electrolyser production by 2030 as a global brand.

Hydrogen does not produce carbon emissions when burned and governments around the world are hoping it can help replace fossil fuels to tackle global warming, with billions pouring into the sector.

Jon Duffy, the chief executive, said: “Governments, large and small corporations – every target they put out has a hydrogen element to it.”

Increasing production will be a key challenge. Hydrogen needs to be split from other elements, either from water using electrolysis or from natural gas using heat.

Production from natural gas itself produces carbon emissions, however, so producing it using electrolysis with renewable energy is increasingly preferred.

Electrolysers normally use membranes to isolate hydrogen and oxygen during the process, but CPH2’s electrolysers use cryogenics to do this instead.

Mr Duffy said this made Clean Power Hydrogen’s product cheaper and also cut down on waste and water usage.

The process is also relatively straightforward, meaning it can licence the process as well as selling its electrolysers directly.

The funds raised on Aim will go towards upgrading the company’s facilities, building supply chains, research and development, patenting and other costs.

As well as its factory in Doncaster, it is likely to build a second factory in Northern Ireland.

The company has not disclosed a valuation. Cenkos is acting as sole broker and Nomad.

Where would you rather invest? -A tech start up in Silicon Valley, or mining exploration company in Cornwall?

It seems to me the key features of the two are as follows.

Tech start up in Silicon Valley
1. The backdrop:-Hundreds of billions of $ chasing a pool of ideas, so ideas are bid up to high prices.
2. " Fake it till you make it" approach by entrepreneurs. Culture of deceit. e.g. Theranos
3. Massive exaggeration of likely revenues to try to attract attention
4. Backing the entrepreneur more than the business. e.g. Elizabeth Holmes
5. Non disclosure agreements and (perhaps necessary) culture of secrecy

Cornish exploration/development company
1. Very limited though growing pool of capital - more tens of millions than hundreds of billions. Often below institutional radar.
2. Very real tangible assets available. Past capex projects available at massive discounts to expenditure e.g. TUN and CUSN
3. Caution and conservative approaches to future potential revenues. Trailing 3 year average pricing in modelling.
4. Investments seem to require both an attractive project and a decent management.
5. Culture of openness - e.g.publication of drill results.

What will this do for investment demand?

Will there be a big switch out of tech stocks into commodities in the coming 12 months? If investment demand -as an inflation hedge- takes off, I think demand will overwhelm supply for a number of commodities especially tin.

" Indonesia has played a key role in global markets as a bulk materials supplier, but President Joko Widodo has pledged to eventually stop exports of all raw commodities to turn the country into a major manufacturing hub for electric transportation." and

James Willoughby of the ITA explained the recent price spike..............

"LME tin prices have surged in the last few days, driven by weakness in the US dollar and strength in the Chinese market.
In China, the upcoming end of the January contract has seen the price move higher as those short in the market struggle to cover their positions. Weaker imports from Myanmar in December and expected low refined production in January are also helping push the SHFE price to new records.
Elsewhere, although the upcoming Indonesian export license renewals do usually see lower output in January, most traders are unconcerned about the situation. In Brazil, the heavy rains that are affecting iron ore production are mostly in the southeast of the country, far from the main tin-producing regions. There has been little impact on tin mining so far."
