My understanding is that the UK has given the go ahead for a coal mine to produce coal for ore reduction purposes not for energy production. If we want steel at the moment it has to come from using this type of coal. In the absence of this coal mine we would either have to import coal or give up making steel.

LB Good to see the progress and that so many local suppliers are involved. A real boost to the economy both now and in prospect in the future when the mine re-starts production.
As the Chinese economy re-opens, demand for tin should rise again and the tight supply market will become tighter. Hopefully this will result in tin prices rising.

As ALK is proposing to process lithium materials, CUSN is unlikely to have any direct relationship. However Cornish Lithium is quite likely to send brine or rock to ALK when it/if it gets going.
Why do you think an association would be disastrous?

I did listen to the whole thing. The two Pauls were miles ahead of the committee in understanding the situation. The current level of their understanding was, I thought, lamentable. It will clearly take time for the committee to get up to speed and then more time for meaningful funding to appear. Fortunately ALK and PRE are able to offer investors an attractive proposition in the near term. Lets hope HMG does not put too many hurdles in the way.
As a security concern, making the UK's supply chain resilient is an extremely urgent issue as is boosting our manufacturing capability.

A very interesting but depressing post. Judging by their questions, the BEIS Sub-Committee on National Security and Investment seems to be only now starting to appreciate the situation the UK is in re critical minerals. The US by contrast has already put aside hundreds of billions of dollars to address the problem.

Too little too late. This leaves the issue on ice for 4 and a half months. Lack of action by HMG is likely to cause blackouts this Winter. Onshore wind was something that could have been implemented 14-15 months ago when it became clear that Putin was planning to weaponise gas supplies. HMG needs to wake up. Companies like TUN need power, lots of it, and not at 60p/kwh, more like 3p/ kwh from an onshore wind turbine.

Yesterday the tin price rose over 5%. As covid restrictions ease in China, tin demand should also rise.

A further thought. Given what we have discussed in the past, it would seem likely that HMG/ US DoD would be keen to provide finance for TVL operations. I would not be surprised to see Mr Menell (TM) appear on the scene before long too!

When the CEO referred to having signed up small exploration companies in the UK in the lithium from brine area, I thought, there is only one I know of. CL. I am not sure that CL have announced this, so I guess it was a slip, and the CEO thought there were several companies operating in the brine in the UK. The conclusion for me is that CL have an outlet for their lithium from brine in the future - and that is TVL/ ALK. Good news for the UK.
