If you look at the price and the time, that was clearly a sell. Someone's been dumping 15k blocks in the run up to news, then that, plus late reported dumping into the spike just after the bell this morning. The price isn't going to rerate significantly until they finish selling.

That certainly surpassed even the enhanced expectations after the Jan trading update. I was hoping for profit circa £3m. And it's 50% better. Wow.

Must admit I'm bemused by the relatively large spread, and the miserly offer by MMs. Someone was dumping 15k blocks of shares last week though. Not enough to meet sustained demand. The trading update in Jan gave a good indication of what to expect tomorrow.

EVR hasn't been sanctioned has it? I don't think it has. Someone who owns some shares in EVR has been sanctioned. Wonder if he owns shares in any other companies at all?

They have created a catch 22 if the company cannot pay a dividend because RA holds shares and would get a dividend payment and also RA is not allowed to dispose of his shares. That is open to legal challenge - especially stopping the company paying dividends because one minority shareholder would receive a portion of them.

The thing about Abramovich's fortune is that what he did was legal at the time and place he made it. The Russian government of the day, even Yeltsin, the leader of the day, were not only aware, they were actively involved in it. Sure, its unpalatable, and sure he took advantage as the communist system crumbled, but if not him, it would just have been someone else. The assets were being disposed of at fire sale prices, and London lawyers and accountants were flocking to Russia to make their fortunes picking over the carcass. Private Eye has detailed it. Are they all being sanctioned too? No. This is pure political posturing.

I understand that people are anxious, but I honestly think this is counter productive. We've only been suspended for a week. Its going to take a while longer. The EU has paid Russia over €17.5 billion for fossil fuels since Feb 24 - these sanctions and what's happening to Evraz is just political posturing by a weak West that's been caught with its pants down. But sending ranty emails to the FCA, who are just doing what their Government paymasters want, will only entrench them. They don't have a sound basis to suspend Evraz, let alone delist it, but they're not going to do anything until there's some sort of settlement. My hunch is they'll quietly lift the suspension on a good day to bury bad news after that. It's out of their hands really, at the moment, so no point giving them a hard time. They'll be more onboard later if we understand their predicament now. If you feel you mist get in touch with them, please point this out. We want them on our side, and shouting at them is just counter-productive.

Mr Space Tomatoes goes from being a Putin apologist to exuding a whiff of anti-semitism in just a few posts. Mr ST, I'm not denying that Putin may have some legitimate grievances (although he did invade and continues to occupy Crimea), but don't you agree that the best way to deal with issues is round a negotiating table, rather than a full scale invasion including heavy artillery bombardment of towns and cities with the inevitable civilian deaths that entails? Putin is not justified in his totally disproportionate reaction here.

It does not give any logical or legal basis for Evraz to be delisted in London. A few politicians calling for extra judicial punishment is not dissimilar to a twitter lynch mob. Nothing to do with the rule of law.

Maybe the petition should be worded as follows "Make HMTreasury provide evidence of its allegations about Evraz to justify sanctions against Roman Abramovich which have had the collateral impact of causing Evraz's shares to be suspended from trading, harming many innocent investors in the UK and abroad, with regard to Canada's refusal to harm Evraz investors."
Or something like that. It needs to be structured to make Parliament hold Government to account. Or at least make a feeble attempt to go through the motions of doing so.

Evr isn't suspended for good, mannnan is straight out lying to sow panic. If you look at the case for the temporary suspension of Evr, it's flimsier than Blair's dodgy dossier, obviously made up on the hoof to excuse persecuting Abramovich. It could only stick if the UK abandons the rule of law and becomes a dictatorship. Although there does seem to be a worrying number of people who appear to want that.

Evraz's no. 1 problem is RA, and the optics of paying him huge dividend. Sort that, and we'll be fine. Honestly, he must have legions of lawyers and accountants - I'm amazed he didn't conceal his stake behind a web of offshore companies decades ago.

Interesting assessment Kong. But I think you are over-estimating Russia's strength. It's now looking doubtful that Putin can even take Ukraine, without resorting to extreme measures such as nuke and/or chemical weapons. And would everyone around him let him go that far? But even if he did take it, how could he possibly hold it. In the meantime, sure Russia can continue trading with parts of the world, but all the rich parts are shunning them. Their economy wasn't great to start with - this is going to spark a terrible recession for them. For us too - this is the most advanced economic warfare the planet has ever seen. China will be watching closely - we need to demonstrate that we can take the pain (and it ain't death). Putin has over-reached and miscalculated very badly. And the sooner it's remedied, the better for Russia (and everyone else). He might be surrounded by stooges, but they ain't idiots. They must be thinking this. I think Putin will retire, maybe on ill health grounds, much sooner than we might expect. That or have an accident.

Why did the Evraz Board refuse to denounce Putin? Er, because they own land, mineral right, factories, distribution channels, many employees etc etc in Russia. And they're not total idiots. These demands that people or entities must join in denunciations is straight out of the left wing twitter zealots mobbing anyone who disagrees. About as attractive as the Chinese Cultural Revolution. Evraz are a business and they want to stick to business.
