The thing about Abramovich's fortune is that what he did was legal at the time and place he made it. The Russian government of the day, even Yeltsin, the leader of the day, were not only aware, they were actively involved in it. Sure, its unpalatable, and sure he took advantage as the communist system crumbled, but if not him, it would just have been someone else. The assets were being disposed of at fire sale prices, and London lawyers and accountants were flocking to Russia to make their fortunes picking over the carcass. Private Eye has detailed it. Are they all being sanctioned too? No. This is pure political posturing.
