It's great to read about the oil and gas sector working together to create a win-win model. Norway and Alberta have gone one step further to include the public. Norway has the same population as Alberta. They started a fund that has amassed US$1 trillion for a population of 4-5 million. In the 1970's, the premiere of Alberta created the heritage trust fund that currently sits at $20 billion. Albertan's have paid $661 billion into the Federal Tax system over the past 70 years from their oil and gas wins to support the rest of Canada.
It would be really sad if the powers that be couldn't come to an agreement and create a win-win-win this summer.

Fusion energy is the future. Initial trials are 5 years away but the reality is commercial operations are more likely 30 years away. Fusion Energy is hoping to have a demonstration model ready in 2023. They are doing a $400 million raise to increase staff from 65 to 400. These are plug and play units that can be put in exiting coal plants. Bezos, Gates, and the Canadian Government are early investors.

Beetaloo test finally set to begin
• The high-impact conventional wells will be followed in Q3/Q4 2019 with big budget drilling campaigns in the Beetaloo Sub-basin.
• Origin filed its environmental plan in early May to drill and fracture stimulate Kyalla 117 N2, which will be its second horizontal well following Amungee NW1-H in 2016, completed just before the moratorium. Kyalla 117 N2 is the first of two wells under stage 2 of its farm in with Falcon Oil and Gas. Origin will drill the new well vertically to a depth of 1,875m before drilling horizontally through the liquids-rich Kyalla formation for a distance of up to 3,000m. The well will be fracture stimulated over up to 20 stages. Origin is planning to drill and fracture stimulate a second well before the wet season returns in November, while Santos is also planning to drill and fracture stimulate two wells, Tanumbirini-2H and Inacumba 1/1H.
• These are no ordinary onshore wells. Falcon Oil and Gas disclosed last month as part of a US$9 million capital raising that the gross estimated capex for stages 2 and 3 (a total of four wells drilled and fracture stimulated) was US$130 million.

• While many more wells will be needed before a development decision can be made, the Origin and Santos, wells in 2019 will go a long way to establishing whether the hype about the Beetaloo is justified. There is plenty of scepticism, due in part to disappointments with unconventional exploration in other Australian onshore basins. This includes the Cooper Basin, which was given a fair test by Beach Energy at the start of this decade, and at one stage had even attracted Chevron as a joint venture partner.

In October 2018, the Phase I project of ENN Zhoushan LNG Receiving Terminal, also the first large-scale LNG receiving terminal invested and operated by a private corporation in China, was completed and put into operation, with annual LNG throughput up to three million tonnes. The Phase II project has commenced and is expected to deliver annual LNG throughput of five million tonnes in the short-term and ten million tonnes in the future.

WellDog Pty Ltd has launched its Shale SweetSpotter service, the first commercial reservoir-evaluation analysis technology specific to unconventional natural gas, following successful field trials with its industry partner, Shell International Exploration & Production, Inc.

WellDog's unique next-generation downhole technology uses lasers and sophisticated detectors to identify the locations where natural gas and natural gas liquids occur in shale formations, allowing producers to focus development efforts, reduce drilling costs, optimize production and reduce the number of hydraulic fracturing stages and associated water usage.

"This development really changes the way operators can approach their new field development and refracturing decisions," said James Walker, chief operating officer of WellDog. "This new service provides a high level of assurance that our customers are going to land their laterals in high quality pay zones."

The service uses WellDog's award-winning Reservoir Raman System which was originally developed to find sweet spots in coalbed methane developments. In 2014, the company began developing new shale-based applications for the technology.
Shale SweetSpotter was developed with the target of increasing the number of producing fracs by 100 per cent or more. This is accomplished by using the industry's only downhole Raman spectrometer to directly identify locations of producible hydrocarbons across the formations, making the service more accurate, reliable, affordable and quick to deploy in comparison to traditional lab-based services.

In a time of rising development costs, downward commodity price pressures and slimming margins, technologies such as this new service helps significantly improve well economics and boost well performance via efficiency gains, allowing operators to optimize economics on both the exploration and production sides of the development equation.
