The latest Investing Matters Podcast episode featuring financial educator and author Jared Dillian has been released. Listen here.
Good morning all - Spring has arrived and according to the forecast we will be enjoying temperatures of 19 degrees towards the end of the week - and it's only March!
Markets seem calm this morning - nothing interesting really being said on Bloomberg so have no idea of what today may bring - I was however looking at some chartists over the weekend and its surprising what the difference between them is - one thinks the market has more or less bottomed with another one thinking the Nasdaq could crash to 7000 points by July - interesting game this.
Hope everyone had a good weekend - what a disappointing result for Wales but in fairness a deserved win for Italy - its like Wales didn't turn up to play this year. Not a bad game between Ireland and Scotland but what a match France v England was - really enjoyed and pleased for the French - its the Shaun Edwards effect working wonders!
Good morning all - bit late this morning - suffering with blocked sinus' at the minute so only just got up - blinking pollen does my head in.
N - I have been watching Polymetal but there are a few too many unknowns with that for my liking - as you say, very volatile at the moment so money can be made.
O - perhaps England should take a leaf out of Wales book from last year and try and get players sent off - sorry to say but I think that is the only thing that will stop the French tomorrow - wish I'd had a little bet on them now as I fancied them from day one.
Sadly I think the more that sanctions are taking an effect in Russia and with the West and US supplying more and more arms to Ukraine I fear that Putin is losing the plot even more and god knows what he will do next - I think Ukraine should drop a bomb/missile on Moscow - see how they like it!
N - just seen that as breaking news in the Mail online - bit extreme - haven't read the article just the headline but it looks like its all to do with wages/pay - I can see them getting unstuck with that strategy in the current climate.
Good morning all - bit of a nicer day today than yesterday weather wise.
N - well done on your trading - I was looking at Mark Miniverni's twitter account over the last few days and the speculation/theory is that the US has either bottomed or is very near the bottom so your US holdings should do well over the longer term.
O - I know what you mean about OCDO - I had a quick trade on it this morning but it looks to me that it may go down later especially as the BOE are due to meet today and speculation is that interest rates are going up again so that may not have a good impact on the share price given what they've said in their trading update.
Hope everyone's doing well.
O - I also watched the news segment about the head of the railway - I think there are quite a few in Ukraine that are proving to be extremely brave in the circumstances - I really do hope there's a resolution soon just from a humanitarian perspective. You may have opportunity to pick something up this afternoon - that's what I'm waiting for.
Good morning all - bit of a dull one here but the forecast for the next few days is nice which brings a smile to my face.
Markets seem a bit quiet this morning which I'm surprised at considering how China rallied overnight - probably got something to do with the Fed meeting today - is the market going to boom or bust after the meeting - from things I'm reading, some people seem to think we're near the bottom of the market and things should start turning soon - would expect a bit of a rally over the next few weeks leading up to ISA season.
Hope everyone's doing OK.
Good morning all - nice dry day here and I did read an article the other day saying that we could be having temperatures in the high 20's next month - that would be nice.
Watching Bloomberg this morning, they were saying that the sell off today is just following the Asian markets - I think China were down around 5% because of covid lockdowns and the effect that will have on their economy - we're just following because the ongoing impact that this can have on supply chains even though news has been implying that these have been improving of late and the US is selling off because of concerns about interest rate rises and the fact that they have finally stopped QE so are no longer stepping into the market to artificially prop it up - expect it will fall like a pack of cards now.
Going back to the rugby on the weekend - I thought England played really well considering they were down to 14 men for all bar 88 seconds - I think they were exhausted in the last 10-15 minutes and the floodgates opened. I just think the players need to get a bit smarter about the tackling/be a bit more cautious - I was watching a game between Cardiff and a South African team on Sunday - a Cardiff player went in for a tackle but virtually between him committing to the tackle and making it someone rolled in front of him and the Cardiff player ended up making head contact on a player he wasn't planning on tackling (hope I'm making sense here). As there were mitigating circumstances the Cardiff player only had a yellow card and not a red. I like the new rule about kicking the ball out into the 25 - makes it more interesting that the attacking team can retain possession.
Hope people can take the opportunity of the dips today - I'm trading ASC or OCDO depending on the volatility - I was thinking over the weekend, it almost seems to me that we're back in 2020 at the start of the pandemic - concerns are slightly different but with the fear of interest rate rises and inflation, OCDO may be one to be buying again as people will still be buying food but not so much discretionary items.
Have a good day everyone.
Good morning all - Monday already - hope everyone had a good weekend.
Fingers crossed that there is positive moves between Ukraine and Russia over the next few days - it was a bit frightening hearing that Russia were asking China for some support by the way of additional weapons - thankfully they seem to be coming down on the sensible side and saying they want a peaceful resolution to the crisis - I wonder whether the impact of all the sanctions and the number of companies pulling out of Russia helped influence their decision - I just hope a ceasefire at the very least is agreed rather quickly as it's just heartbreaking seeing all the images at the moment.
I'm not sure, but I think the States changed their clocks over the weekend so any spikes/shakes could happen around 1.30 - I'm watching Bloomberg at the moment to see whether they confirm that.
Good afternoon all on this pleasant Saturday afternoon.
O - shame we didn't win last night - if only that ball was caught towards the end of the match by Jonathan Davies the result would obviously have been very different - enjoyable game nonetheless and can't complain about the performance really - shame there were 10,000 tickets unsold but I suppose when the prices are £100 a ticket, and the fact that it's a nightmare getting out of town when it's a normal Saturday afternoon kick off, I'm not really that surprised.
May the best teams win today.
Good morning all from a wet and dull Wales - can't believe its Friday already.
O - I'll second your comments/sentiments.
Well rugby tonight - I dread to think what the score might be - I just hope its an entertaining game to watch. Hope everyone has a good weekend.
Does anyone watch Bloomberg? They've got a blinking awful infomercial on at the moment - I think because they're funding the research - about how mice brains get finely sliced up and put back together again for research into Alzheimers or something - not a very nice thing to watch/listen to at all.
Good morning all - nice and dry here at the moment but the forecast is for heavy winds/rain later on today - not sure if my fence is going to last - haven't been able to arrange to have posts concreted because its been too wet but if that's all I've got to worry about in the current climate then I consider myself to be lucky.
Markets schizophrenic again - phenomenal rises one day with big falls the next - just all a bit worrying with what's happening in Ukraine - I just don't know what the answer is to Russia - it seems we're buggered if we do, and buggered if we don't - maybe the world needs to stand up to the bully and call his bluff but I suppose that's a very dangerous game to play.
Hope everyones keeping well.
Good morning all - nice sunny dry morning here - I think its the calm before the storm given the weather forecast.
C - nice to hear from you and note that there has been some mixed blessings for you - my condolences in respect of your losses - you're right, things like that does put life into perspective and we all have to try and enjoy every minute that we've been give. Congratulations on your new arrival - just as well your wife has now gone part time as it gives you both more time to being fully utilised for child care. Looks like you picked up some bargains with your purchases and you may well have timed your re-entry into the market perfectly. Enjoy your F1 trip.
N - well done on your position in the fantasy fund - quite an achievement. No harm in switching funds/taking losses if you think you can get your money working harder/more profitably for you elsewhere - I'm sure those that are invested in things like Evraz and Poly did the same and are probably smiling from ear to ear now - you could have always bought back the shares you sold for a cheaper price and pocketed the cash.
I'm a bit wary of the market at the moment and am not holding anything in my trading pot overnight just so that I have funds available for the next day. I was a bit worried last night when Poland said they were going to hand their MIG planes or whatever they are to the States for them to pass on to Ukraine as I felt that would be an invitation to Putin to drag Poland and other countries into this battle. It's good to see that more and more companies are pulling out of Russia and I see that following a campaign, McDonalds and Coca Cola have now withdrawn in addition to Starbucks and some other major names. I really hope the impact of these withdrawals are helpful rather than the Russian people thinking the West are ganging up on them - I watched a debate on Monday evening on Sky where a Russian lady living in the UK said that she has had to cut herself off from family/friends in Russia because they just don't believe/won't listen to the fact that Russia have invaded Ukraine - their view was that Russia were "rescuing the people of Ukraine"!
Hope everyone is keeping well and are able to trade the mad volatility at the moment.
N - I think you're right about that - I was saying to my friend yesterday that the younger generation will soon start to look and think things aren't right with everyone pulling out of Russia - they have a travel ban, tik tok are withdrawing from Russia now as well so it doesn't take a lot to think what's really going on.
