I'd like to offer my condolences Clumpet, and also share a story of the oldest man I ever met.
Aubrey (real name!) was 99 years old when I met him. He was a great old chap, with some of the best stories I've ever heard. He had all sorts of pains and ailments but never failed to smile. He also made the coffee whenever I visited though I offered to help, he just told me to sit down and have some patience. Aubrey had sadly lost his wife almost half a century before but he spoke about her very time we met, they hadn't been able to have kids, something he blamed on himself (without any good reason, but that was the sort of gentleman he was). He explained that she was a part of him and had been the best thing that ever happened to him. His house was full of photos of them together. I once heard him reply to someone who had asked what kept him going, he didn't understand the question as he wasn't making a choice he said, he was living the best life he could as that's what his wife had told they should do.
I could go on about dear old Aubrey but I just wanted to share his advice to me; be the best man you can be, that is a gentleman and a gentle man, a strong man is one who picks up others when they fall.
