johnpohn, why focus on the £4m? They've already told us they're building orders closer to £40m for next year end. That suggests that everything is more or less growing to plan.

Laughton, ITM/ITM Motive has been saying exactly that for years. I'll believe it when I see it...

But Seaangler these are new sites being offered for exploration. Surely there's plenty of oil in the existing wells to cover us through the transition. Last I heard the middle east isn't running out of oil any time soon.

They're not getting the message to "leave it in the ground" are they? The constant focus by the mainstream on CCS just keeps giving them cause to carry on drilling.

Looks like we've had a nice, broadly flat, opening. I think that's really positive at this stage of the day. Let's see how the presentations affect the rest of the day. It'll depend how much 'new' stuff, or new numbers, is presented. I'll be amazed if there's any new stuff really as we know so much about the current track of this market opportunity. Looking forward to it though.

My guess is for a lower opening, maybe up to 10% down as people cash in some of this week's profits and focus too much on the £4m.

Any serious investors should be watching the Linde presentation this morning and the ITM presentation this afternoon and I would predict a reversal of the negativity and maybe Smithy's right up to a 20% gain by the close.

Pure speculation of course.

It's going to be interesting to see what the market focuses on this morning, the £4m stated for the past year or the anticipated £40m for next year?

Its good to see some more realistic figures presented. The governments announcement of 40GW wind by 2030 was always in danger of being accepted as meeting net-zero targets, which it doesn't.

The bit about 140GW storage in batteries confuses matters though as 140GW is not a capacity. If they mean 140GWh capacity that's only a few hours storage for a typical day if you're trying to supply the grid without any fossil. Longer term storage (hydrogen, cryogenic-air, flow batteries, hydro) is more likely to be needed to support the many consecutive days we've either got too much or too little wind.

As the saying goes, 'time is a great healer', we're 4 months past the peak. Back then people could say we had gained over 100% in just a couple of months and it was an over-hyped bubble. Today the position is closer to 10% gain over 12 months. So I'm hopeful that next week's results won't justify a large fall from these 'normal' levels. I think it's currently priced in. If we get an announcement like a supply contact to Shell's Rotterdam hydrogen hub then we could even push back up strongly. "Hope is not a strategy", but we can dream can't we?

Mercedes GLC F-Cell was also going to be plug-in fuel cell hybrid. I was really disappointed when they abandoned it last year. My money is on it coming back though as it dawns on people that it's the best all round solution.

Shell are making some moves around the Rotterdam H2 Hub choosing a European-based Australian company for engineering services. As far as I can tell there is still no announcement of who gets the contract for the 200MW of electrolysers. Is it too much to ask that we win this and the announcement will be made along with the trading update next week. That would certainly put the usual low figures well and truly in the shade.

Laughton I was just about to post the same link. I'm pretty sure the 'powers that be' can't comprehend the scale of the problem that mass adoption of EV without home charging will bring. And the amount of money being thrown at it could have rolled out a comprehensive nationwide hydrogen refuelling infrastructure many times over.

I believe ITM recognise the global opportunity and will build their next factory overseas. My guess Australia.

Although it annoys me when the government waste our public money backing the wrong horse, I also recognise that they are not powerful enough to change policy elsewhere. So as long as the right technology is sufficiently adopted elsewhere to eventually light the way then even our governments tend to fall into line at some later date. I just think it's a shame that we end up following, not leading, and our homegrown businesses tend to miss out as a result.

Unfortunately we have a long history of our governments, whichever party, backing the wrong horse when it comes to technology decisions. I think it comes from a lack of scientific or engineering background in our policymakers. They rely on committee sessions with 'expert' witnesses quizzed for their opinion. So the decision often ends up a result of whoever was the most persuasive individual, not necessarily with the best idea.

The latest podcast from "Everything about Hydrogen" was an interview with Marco Alverà, the CEO of Snam. He was incredibly upbeat for the future of hydrogen. Well worth a listen. Although ITM did get a shout-out towards the end of the interview they don't steal the show - so don't get too excited.

Good old CleanTechnica. And their comments section is as blinkered as ever. They only ever see transport as small vehicles that charge from home.

It's going to be interesting to see if they really are right once Tesla and Nicola both build their battery electric semi trucks and we get to see sales and real customer feedback on living with them. Until that market proves me wrong I still think hydrogen is compelling for heavy transport and long distances (if time is an important consideration).

To be fair, I'd do the same in his shoes. But then I'm against any new nuclear as I'm strongly persuaded that the entire world energy needs can be met through renewables and storage.
