International Consolidated Airlines Group's ($IAG, $IAG) British Airways and low-cost airline easyJet ($EZJ) will face a two-day trial this week in the UK High Court as they seek to dismiss a class action for the automatic compensation of flight delays, The Telegraph reported Sunday.

Respective airline spokespersons told the publication that lawyers have been instructed to fight off the lawsuit. The report noted that the UK's flag carrier and its low-cost rival could potentially pay damages of at least 100 million pounds sterling.

An easyJet spokesman said they believe the case "has no legal or procedural basis," while a British Airways spokesman said the lawsuit is "misconceived" and without a proper legal basis.

Imagine taking home €350,000 a year, honestly it’s beggers belief, then they wonder why inflation is as has as it has been with people demanding pay increases such as this!

IAG's Aer Lingus Continues Talks With Pilots After Union Members Vote for Industrial Action

International Consolidated Airlines Group ($IAG, $IAG), d/b/a IAG, on Monday submitted a new remedy package to the European Commission over its proposed takeover of Spanish carrier Air Europa.

In a Tuesday statement sent to MT Newswires in response to a Reuters report about the matter, the British Airways owner said the new proposals include "improvements that have come from the constructive dialogue" with the commission.

Reuters reported earlier on the same day, citing an unnamed source, that the new remedy package will surrender 52% of Air Europa's 2023 flights to competitors under previously signed memoranda of understanding.

The commission is expected to give its decision on the acquisition by Aug. 20.
