Beowulf mining met with Prime Minister Ibrahim Baylan's State Secretary Emil Högberg on Tuesday to inform his plans of a mine in Kallak west of Jokkmokk.
But some information about when the government should make decisions about the mining project was not submitted, says Göran Färm, Beowulf's chairman of the board:
- No, they do not want to say, and I hope, of course, that it does not take too long and reasonably it must come in fairly near-time, but we have not received any message.
Beowulf mine's application for processing concession in Kallak has been at the government's table for two rounds, now most recently for about two years, but no decision has yet been made on yes or no to the mining plans.
- If there are any special reasons why it is delayed, we do not know, but it is clear that we announced that we are very critical of the fact that the whole procedure has now taken six years.
In addition to Göran Färm, Beowulf Mining's President Curt Budge attended the meeting with Emil Högberg, State Secretary at the Ministry of Industry.
For Beowulf mining, big money is at stake before the uncertain government decision, the company has invested almost 80 million on the Kallak project.
Much is at stake also for the Sami villages Sirges and Jåhåkaska who believe that a mine in Kallak would jeopardize the future of their reindeer herding.
Jan-Erik Länta is Jåhkåkaskas chairman:
- For us, it would be impossible, and I hope all instances, and the government also realizes.
Jan-Erik Länta has no objection to the government taking a long time to make the decision on Kallak:
- Sometimes such processes have to take time, and the important thing is that it becomes the right decision.
