Another thing that attracted EAM to Ethiopia was the implementation of the country’s transformation programme that was approved by the World Bank in 2010.

This resulted in securing US$75 billion for infrastructure development in this resource rich region. The aim of the programme is to increase mining’s contribution to the country’s GDP from the current 3% to 10% by 2025.

“There is strong intent from the government to focus on the resource sector and 10 years later, it has built highways and roads to the port of Sudan, a regional airport and Africa’s biggest hydropower station at the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.

“All of this was happening while we were conducting exploration in the country and this gave us the opportunity to lower the bar with respect to economic hurdles that we could expect with regards to infrastructure development, something that is a major concern in most parts of Africa,” Smith adds.

Naturally, development of EAM’s projects will contribute significantly to the country’s GDP and the socio-economic well-being of its citizens, but the company is doing even more to put Ethiopia on the mining map.

discussing report - could be revealing - only so many times they can say "we're working on it" - they've been found out and will have to come up with something constructive for utterly failing to do their job. They can't admit the truth (the Greenies won't allow it) because it's NOT a political decision - it's a mining decision and they should have made it many years ago. Hopefully someone will point out the number of times they wrongly batted this away for some time consuming irrelevant exercise just so they could avoid making a decision. I will happily take a NO at this point because I know it will be overturned by the courts (and they know it).

The Sudanese army arrested a leader of the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) armed group, who fled from Ethiopia to that nation accompanied by his family, according to reports in this capital today.

The official information does not reveal the name of the detainee, but specifies that he had in his possession large amounts of currency and gold, in addition to two luxury cars, among other material goods.

Together with dozens of soldiers and his personal protection team, the high official was located by the intelligence services of Gedaref city.

DDIS ABABA (Reuters) - The Ethiopian government said on Tuesday that a senior politician linked to the rebellion in the northern region of Tigray had surrendered.

“One of nine central committee leaders of the TPLF, Keria Ibrahim, has surrendered to federal forces,” said a tweet from the government’s Tigray taskforce, using the acronym of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front, a political party spearheading the fight against the government in Addis Ababa.

Hi Eric! - Only been away 6 months out of 10 years but I've been keeping a close eye on the Wulf. My feeling in June was that there would be nothing till the next election but now I'm thinking it could be a lot closer - 3 months maximum for a 4/5 bagger minimum....

seems to me that a reference to UNESCO is the last argument the Greens have in this battle. If, as I fully expect, UNESCO say it doesn't have any material effect (of course it doesn't, it's bloody miles away) - they will concede the mine licence. They will be annihilated at the next election if they are seen to be stopping the creation of jobs following a bad recession. Once the licence is granted, am expecting LKAB to buy Kallak (or BEM - don't care) - but it will be for a LOT of money. Hold on to your hats, as they say in The Queen's Gambit - after 10 years - it's Endgame time

There are currently government negotiations between the Social Democrats and the Environmental Party on the issue of the prospecting company Beowulf Mining application for processing concession for the mine Kallak. Di is experiencing this.
