The Government is supporting innovation for improved testing technologies, both laboratory-based and more recently for tests that can be carried out at scale and at the point-of-care. The Government is also exploring whether other samples can be used, such as saliva rather than nose and throat swabs. Several companies mentioned in a recent Government statement are working on this:

Avacta: a laboratory test using mass spectrometry on nose and throat swabs and on saliva samples. The company is also developing an antigen saliva test.
Chronomics: a laboratory PCR test that can be carried out on saliva samples.
MAP Science: a laboratory test using mass spectrometry on saliva samples.
Oxford Nanoimaging: is developing a portable technology that uses microscopy to detect whole virus in samples including saliva.

We have not been told they aren't interested anymore, quite the opposite

Let's hope those Affimers do thier thing and the avacta lfd sets a new very high standard.
The press and deeks ripping into lfd accuracy. We all know they are only using one type, the Chinese ****e one. But the public don't necessarily know that and may loose confidence.
Once Avacta can prove the accuracy with the clinical trials. I'm sure they'll be a huge pr offensive singing the praises of a UK made accurate test.

I've found the last week very refreshing been really busy in work and rarely read the board. When you do that you realise what absolute dross is posted (I include me in this obviously) when there really is noting to talk about.

Penny dropped yet that 10's of millions of tests will be required for a very long time? the wonder vaccine will not be with us for a very long time.

Just check out the new rules to allow us to re-infect everyone over a sherry at Christmas, maybe a mince pie with a side of COVID-19.
