We know they work from the Elisa test:

The Affimer-based ELISA test is capable of detecting the coronavirus spike protein in laboratory samples down to very low concentrations. An evaluation of the ELISA carried out with The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine using SARS-CoV-2 virus samples shows that it can detect as little as a few thousand virus infectious units per millilitre of sample. This is typical of the levels found in infectious COVID-19 patients' saliva whether they are symptomatic or not. Highly infectious COVID-19 patients can have many thousands or millions of times more spike protein in their saliva than this.
The Affimer-based ELISA test is also highly specific to the SARS-CoV-2 virus with no cross-reactivity against other closely related coronavirus spike proteins.

Absolutely, if they had failed they have to RNS. They haven't as they are making great progress!

find it hard to accept though with 100s of thousands of cases that validation of a test couldn't be done quicker, especially as they appear to be doing an independent validation outside of the exceptionally slow CONDOR.

BUT we are where we are, here's hoping its early in 2021 when the data is available to help get the country out of the awful situation we are in, losing the battle against this awful virus....

Was about to say that affirmers bind to D614G mutation but this latest one is new

We know Affimers bind to the last mutation -D614G

Will N501Y now delay the test further while they determine if the latest strain is detected?

Avacta have stressed that the beauty of Affimers is that a candidate that does bind can be created and utilised. But that takes more time. Could well be that it already binds as with the first identified mutation.

As frustrating as it is, the most important thing is to get the lfd right and get the scientific community behind it followed by a press/government fanfare.
