She's been a champion of Greatland Gold for many months now, and who can argue with that!

I just love to see all these praises flying about, as well as the usual, dare I say it, arrogant types, posting their sp predictions to the GGP mast!

Quite frankly, I don't know why most of them bother...Most sp predictions fall flat on the face of the predictor, that's why I never do so. The VERY rare occasion(s) when the predictions actually occur leads to the usual, arrogant, "I told you so" posts.

It is what it is! IMHO, just research and know where you stand, and largely ignore the pointless predictors!

As I've been banging on about for well over a year, "Four of the 10 have been stalled, along with Newcrest and Harmony Gold’s Wafi-Golpu project, which is facing delays due to an ongoing dispute with the Papua New Guinea government."

The article confirms further the issues that Newcrest are having, and which may well continue, at Wafi-Golpu.

Havieron is vital for the growth plan at Newcrest, and, unlike Wafi-Golpu, Havieron is, of course, in one of the lowest risk and safest mining jurisdictions in the world.

The rally in ASX copper shares could extend for a few more months as experts believe the metal is heading to fresh 10-year highs.

That’s not only great news for ASX copper producers, but there’s another less obvious group of ASX shares that look set to ride this uptrend. I’ll touch on that more later....

The benchmark copper price on the London Metal Exchange jumped 1.8% to US$9,379.50 a tonne on Monday night.

It’s now within striking distance of its February high of US$9,617 – it’s highest point in a decade.

Commodity analysts believe the path of least resistance is up for the commodity, reported Reuters.

As mentioned earlier, there’s another group of ASX shares that have been largely overlooked by copper bulls. These are ASX gold shares.

COPPER OFFSETS WEAKNESS IN THE GOLD PRICE
Copper and gold are normally found together. ASX gold miners sell the copper to lower to cost of production for their gold operations.

This means a high copper price will allow miners like the Newcrest Mining Ltd (ASX: NCM) share price to expand their margins....

In some ways the huge increase in drilling generally in the Paterson, which will no doubt continue for decades, will also provide a degree of symbiosis for the various companies involved due to the 'sharing' of data.

Greatland Gold plc, a precious and base metals exploration and development company, has announced the results of the remaining four drill holes from the 2020 drilling campaign at its 100% owned Scallywag licence. The company has identified multiple new targets to conduct further drill testing. Greatland's 2021 drilling in the Paterson is expected to commence in the coming weeks.

The Scallywag drill programme reported here is the first stage of an extended drilling programme across Greatland's 100% licences and the Juri joint venture (JV). During 2020, a total of seven drill holes were completed for 3761 m testing targets at the Kraken, London and Blackbeard prospects. Assay results have now been received for the remaining four holes (LOD002, LOD003, KRD002 and KRD003) in addition to the results of the first three holes released on 20 January 2021....

PS: I know that the Goldman Sachs upgrade was covered here on Friday by Paddy. Motley Fool, Australia have always been good at releasing extra detail from such notes, especially in the mining sector, as they do here.

The Newcrest Mining Ltd share price and the Northern Star Resources Ltd share price have been strong performers on Friday.

At the time of writing, the shares of these gold miners are both up 4%.

There have been a couple of catalysts for the rise in the Newcrest and Northern Star share prices today.

The first is a rise in the gold price overnight. According to CNBC, the spot gold price rose 1.6% to US$1,764.70 an ounce after bond yields retreated.

This has given the overall sector a lift, leading to the S&P/ASX All Ords Gold index rising 3% this morning.

In addition to the rising gold price, a broker note out of Goldman Sachs this morning has given their shares a boost.

According to the note, the broker has upgraded both Newcrest and Northern Star to buy ratings from neutral.

In respect to Newcrest, Goldman has upgraded its shares to a buy rating with an improved price target of $33.50.

The broker made the move for three key reasons. One is its valuation. Goldman notes that its shares were trading at 0.76x net asset value (NAV) prior to today’s gain. This is the largest discount among ASX 100 gold peers and North American gold majors.

In addition to this, the broker points out that Newcrest’s value-accretive growth pipeline continues to develop, with project catalysts to come....

At the same time it's notable that India's gold imports in March were up 471% compared with 2020, at a year a record 160 tonnes, largely due to a reduction in import taxes. In value terms March imports were at $8.4 billion from $1.23 billion a year earlier.

Indeed! GS said that, "Copper is the new oil", adding that there is "no decarbonization without copper"

I've had a feeling, for some considerable time now, that instead of the usual step-outs they'll be needing to use some leap-outs to get anywhere near the extent of the Havieron motherlode! That's not even including the depths of course! GLA

There's always some small satisfaction in seeing the usual, arrogant, "I told you so" types, getting it wrong...again!
