If you were holding 50k shares and sold yesterday would you still be able to buy today, given the scramble to buy them back?

Afraid so. Those buying in at £17 plus, selling every time they see a small run of rise's. Hence pull back from £18.80's. Price still around $300/t on futures.

diamondman: last Wed posted to GLOBAL COAL PRICES SOAR - Miners going down 3% due to negative news from China re: demand for metals. Problem was Thungela followed suit. But the reverse happened when the outlook was less negative, and they alone rose 3%.
This suggests those currently trading in small numbers ( the combined avg daily trades for LSE & JSE is less than 1% of the total share issue) do not fully appreciate the actual economic, political & socio impact of news on Thungela's ability to sell thermal coal. Hence price continually up and down, and sometimes not attached to any logic!

$436/t after initial fall now up 0.17%.

All the big miners up 2-3% today but Thungela stagnant. Most investors now just holding until dividend. Will wait to see what happens after.

At least we didn't have our money in Helium One!

Avg JSE daily trade volume is 797k shares. Total shares 133.6m. That means .006% of the shares currently being traded.
The majority therefore are being held. Inevitable that price will yoyo based on daily trades. When really good news comes it flys, then falls back into day trade mode again. Falling for no good reason. If the threat of a crash scares you sell up and put it into a savings account!

And what happens the next day? They go down 3%!
You would expect those holding small numbers of the shares to have some knowledge of their value?
China reports downturn affecting metals demand, hence Glencore & Anglo American fall.
So what about coal? The Report was as follows :-
Global coal prices are trading at record highs as the world scrambles to secure reliable sources of energy.
Coal for delivery next month at Newcastle, Australia hit a record high on Monday, while European prices are close to records.
The IEA said global coal consumption will rise to a high last seen a decade ago this year as the war in Ukraine ripples around the world.

Not sure why all these spares shares are floating about. If I had some spare cash would buy them all up and live off the divi's!

Yes bought at xmas and now hold 53k shares. Have seen the big drops come and go. Cannot escape the fact that short term prospects remain high. SP will not drop back to £2, £3, £4 level and dividends exceptional!

And walk away from a sizeable dividend! Why?

Price up again. Just wait until stocks go down once winter really sets in!

Yes I have registered online with SARS and successfully reclaimed back WT to 10%. Sept dividend will be same. Paid direct into ISA. Currently checking if repayment can go back into ISA.
