The only way, if you have paid a large amount of WT, is to employ a SA Tax agent to apply for the refund on your behalf for a fee. What that fee is nobody knows because you are dealing with body that doesn't want to give you a refund even when you are entitled to it'
SARS are renowned for their inefficiency, incompetence, and failure to provide an accessible/workable online tax system for non-residents, let alone SA residents. The only advice they give you is to visit your local SARS office (not an easy option for UK residents) or to call the SARS office. (100x times worse than HMRC).
SA says it has a system that allows non-residents to reclaim the 50% reduction in WT from 20% to 10%, but in reality it is a lie that all of the UK Brokers and the UK Govt are happy to go along with.
If that is reciprocated with SA investors who buy shares in UK Company's then fair play.
We've just had the SA Head of State over here, and one of his stated aims was to get increased investment from the UK in SA Company's.
A good start would be the complete overhaul of the WT system with regard to shares held in the name of Nominee Brokers, but without pressure from the UK Govt it will never happen!
