It will indeed QueenElvis which is why I have taken a position this morning. Not as large as I wanted to but happy to average up if need be once the news flow of negativity is out the way. If the price does falter later then stops in place and I'll take up the large holding if and when it reached my original target. Atb

By increase his own position I mean via reduction of market size his own holding as a percentage would naturally increase not that he would suddenly own the shares of course.

Queenelvis, the legality question was from me. My point not being that MA would increase his stake directly but by way of share buyback from the companies coffers reduce the market size and thus increase his own position. Seems a little wrong to me?

Sure is, not quite sure what they'll pay dividends from unless they secure further deals going forward and increase revenue. Don't think any of their existing investments even pay dividends to redistribute to holders. Valued at book, let's see where she takes us..

Isengard fair point, TA is often used for an entry but coupled with fundamentals can play a valid part in the investment. In terms of the PE, SPD is already trailing in the retail sector with its neighbour JD at multiples. This is one factor to consider the price is cheap however this alone can not make an investment case hence why those buying at £3-4+ are currently underwater. JP, the share buyback will reduce market size as stated and thus increase the % holding of MA by default. It will be an interesting play, not quite sure on how that would be looked upon by regulators? Would that even be legal?

What's people's thoughts on either taking the company private or share buy back?

For those who look beyond fundamentals, I'm charting next major support around 215-195 levels. This coincides with historic support/resistance levels and a solid fib retracement, the median being around the £2 mark for psychological reasons. I have charted below but I see this area giving more reasons than one to be difficult to break.. A close below the lower would see a signicant move down. Atb.

It isn't a dog elvis, it just needs better management at the helm. It's also fell out of favour but in 12-18 months with the right setup will be flavour of the month again. Things take time I just foresee it going lower, and depending on what happens in the near term it could very well dip momentarily below £2

QueenElvis for transparency I am not short and hold no position in the stock. As I said fundamentally this is cheap however sentiment is also a key player in the market, technically it's looking bearish on a reversal in both sentiment and TA I would look to take a position. My comments on here are of no influence to the movement of a FTSE 250 company's share price movements, I just have this on my watchlist and air my views. ATB

Isengard very true but the exchange rate at the time of purchase would of been nearer gbp/usd $1.50 would it not? I can't see them exiting their position in the us so soon either. The issue they have now is the outcome of the fines and payback, another negative slant and millions £s in fees will be taken badly by the market. Everything needs to be out and dealt with before this will move forward again IMHO.

The retailer is now being investigated by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs, Britain's tax and wages authority. It could fine Sports Direct and demand back pay for workers. Coupled with today's slump of the pound.. things are looking grim short term.

Standard life will pickup on the way down, I've seen them do it on other shares as we know it's hard to call the bottom but I do think further negativity to come in the near term.

Have got my eye on SPD however I don't think the bottom has been reached yet despite it already trading at a massive discount. Unfortunately sentiment is a major driver here, couple that with HM Revenue furthering investigations and the uncertainty of the pound and I see this airing nearer to the £2 mark. Let the waters settle and common sense will eventually prevail, opening a position now even based on TA is not a gamble I am willing to take. ATB guys.
